RUSH: Here we are again today, folks, Rush Limbaugh: Still feeling crummy but not debilitated — and thanks to the miracle of audio processing, I probably sound much better than I am. It’s one of the marvels of modern technology. Well, it’s technology, not even modern. This is audio processing dating back to the 1950s which is making me sound perfectly normal. At any rate, here we are ready to go, three hours straight ahead. It is 800-282-2882 if you want to be on the program; email address: ElRushbo@eibnet.us.
I may need some help today, folks, ’cause there’s some things that are not making sense to me. Why today, all of a sudden, is the Drive-By Media overwhelmed with news of the crisis of immigration at the border? The Border Patrol has reported some numbers, and the Drive-By Media is repeating the news and making the case that there is indeed a crisis at the border. We have more people being detained (and that means they’re gonna stay in the country) than at any time. We have records being set by the month now.
Now, why would the Drive-By Media be facilitating that effort on behalf of the president? Well, they’re actually not. If you look at the New York Times, it’s kind of a dichotomy. The New York Times newspaper today has story after story after story detailing this crisis, and every one of these stories blames Trump for it! Trump wanting to build a wall, Trump wanting to increase prosecutions is forcing people to come into the country in record numbers before the wall is built or before Trump is able to get his ducks in a row.
The New York Times, after littering its pages with all the details of this crisis, has an editorial claiming there isn’t a crisis, that the only crisis is Donald Trump, the only crisis is Donald Trump and his policies. Now, something here is way out of whack. Maybe my debilitated… Well, I’m not debilitated. Maybe my crummy physical circumstance is causing me not to see what’s clearly in front of me here, but some of this just doesn’t add up.
And then the day that we have these news stories, we have Kirstjen Nielsen from Homeland Security up testifying to this and how bad it is with details. I mean, everything in the news media today is making the case for Trump’s national emergency declaration, and yet over in the Senate, we got Rand Paul and a bunch of other Republicans saying, “Ain’t no way we’re gonna do this! We’re not gonna let a president go outside the Constitution.
“Because what if the Democrats end up in power someday and want to use this declaration of a national emergency to implement the New Green Deal.” That is such a bogus comparison! Frankly, I’m tiring of a lot of Republican philosophy or strategy. “No, we can’t do this because what if they get in power…” They already do this kind of stuff without concern of what we’re gonna think of it or whether we’re gonna implicate them by redoing what they have done in previous administrations. That doesn’t matter to them! They just do what’s necessary to advance their agenda.
We don’t. We try to advance people liking us or we try to advance people thinking that we’re honorable or we try to advance the idea to make people think that we’re not what the Drive-By Media says we are. So we always seem to be on the defensive. I’m not including the president in this. I’m talking about the people who don’t want to sign on and help, ’cause this clearly is an emergency. This clearly is an invasion. This clearly is something that is… (sigh)
We’re gonna lose our country as founded if something isn’t done about this. It cannot continue. Of course, the Democrats see no problem with it whatsoever. They have no problem whatsoever with this continuing. But it’s gotta be dealt with. Now, let’s go to the audio sound bites. I want you to hear the U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CPB) commissioner, Kevin McAleenan. He held a press conference talk about the crisis at the southern border. He’s just a portion of what he said…
MCALEENAN: This situation is not sustainable. Remote locations of the United States border are not safe places to cross, and they are not places to seek medical care. The system is well beyond capacity and remains at the breaking point. Based on the experiences of men and women on the front line, this is clearly both a border security and humanitarian crisis.
RUSH: It is. We can’t handle the number of people crossing the border. We can’t handle them with medical care. We can’t absorb them. We just can’t continue with this. Now, this is the kind of news that normally the Drive-By Media would suppress. But they’re not. They’re making a huge deal out of it, and I think doing so in order for their audiences to blame it all on Trump — that, in other words, none of this would be happening (or very little of this would be happening) if it weren’t for Trump’s radicalness.
(impression) “I mean, you can’t run around and start talking about building a wall without creating a mad dash to get into the country before it’s built. You can’t run around and tell everybody that you’re gonna shut down illegal immigration without causing masses of people to flood the border.” This is the take on this that they have, but this is also the kind of news that you would not think they would want prominently displayed all across their outlets because it does confirm the crisis that the president is talking about.
Now, here’s Senator Paul. He was on CNN last night with Jake Tapper. Question: “You’re gonna vote to block the president’s declaration of a national emergency to get these border funds. How many Republicans do you think are gonna join, and have you heard from the president on this?”
RUSH: Now, the fact that he says the Constitution says only Congress can make law and only by law can you take money out of the Treasury and appropriate to an act of Congress. In this circumstance, that may not be true at all. You all know the name Sidney Powell. I have referenced her book, Licensed to Lie, on several occasions in which she informs on and calls out many of the prosecutors on Robert Mueller’s team who came from the Enron task force and their prosecutorial misconduct throughout their careers.
She has a piece in The Daily Caller. This goes all the way back to October 22nd of 2018, so last year. It’s an opinion piece, but she herself is a lawyer, and her contention here is that the president of the United States has the authority to stop the entry of all aliens into the United States, and he could do it today. He could shut down the border today. He would not even have to declare a so-called national emergency. He could just shut it down, and the why and wherefore is found here:
“Title 8, United States Code §1182(f) gives the president the power ‘to suspend the entry of all aliens’ whenever he finds their entry ‘would be detrimental to the interests of the United States.’ It’s just that simple.” Existing United States law gives the president the right and the authority to simply suspend the entry of all aliens — and guess what? “The Supreme Court recently affirmed this power of the president in Trump v. Hawaii. The Court was very clear: ‘The sole prerequisite set forth in 8 U.S.C. §1182(f) is that the president ‘find’ that the entry of the covered aliens ‘would be detrimental to the interests of the United States.'”
This is the travel ban, the first travel ban. They went and found a judge in Hawaii to issue a stay on the issuance of the travel ban. This is what the left did. This was in the immediate months after Trump was inaugurated. That case wound its way all the way up to the Supreme Court, and the Supreme Court found that the president had total authority — which everybody knew going in! Everybody knew going in the president had this authority, just like the president has the authority to declare a national emergency!
There isn’t any question about it! But now we have Supreme Court affirmation of Title 8 United States Code Section 1182(f): “‘The sole prerequisite set forth in [this law] is that the president ‘find’ that the entry of the covered aliens ‘would be detrimental to the interests of the United States.’ Therefore, the president can suspend the entry of all aliens. The plain language of the statute is so clear, the president need not even give reasons.” Even though there are countless reasons to stop all immigration right now.
So this is all heppd up here to be distracting to a lot of things with this declaration of a national emergency and the president not able to get unanimous consent among his own party members in the Senate and so forth. Folks, do not be under any illusions that the Republican Party is to this day united behind Donald Trump. Yeah, the Senate is giving Trump his judges, and the Senate is cooperating in some other areas. But the Senate is made up of a lot of Never Trumpers who do not want Trump to succeed no matter what.
And when it comes to immigration, you know as well as I do that both parties are totally devoted to the donors that send them money that all want some kind of amnesty or open-bordercircumstance.
BREAK TRANSCRIPT
RUSH: So let me go back here to the Drive-By Media. They’re flooding the zone today with news of the crisis at the border, and it happens to coincide with exactly what Trump administration is saying. Customs and Border Patrol are saying we’re at “the breaking point.” We have a massive disaster on our hands here, and the Drive-By Media is saying so. Now, in the New York Times’ case, they are attempting to acknowledge this while blaming it all on Trump, and the New York Times is urging the Senate not to support Trump’s declaration of a national emergency despite this.
Because their objective is to make sure their readers and everybody else that might come across this understand that the only reason there’s a crisis is because of Donald Trump, however it adds up. “Well, people around the world hate Donald Trump but they love America. But if they get the idea that Trump’s gonna build a wall to shut ’em out, they’re gonna flood the zone before the wall gets built. Trump is responsible.” New York Times: “Border at ‘Breaking Point’ as More than 76,000 Unauthorized Migrants Cross in a Month.”
So the New York Times has to admit there’s a crisis at the border. Up until today, the Times and the Drive-Bys have been claiming that the number of border crossings is at a record low. So what’s behind this? The New York Times is trying to say that it’s all Trump’s fault. Trump’s new policies and his desire to build a wall are the reason for the surge, not the loopholes that were discovered under Obama, such as seeking asylum, such as coming from a country not contiguous. You wonder why all these people are coming from Guatemala and El Salvador?
You’ve got the ACLU involved in the creation of these loopholes, the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals. But it’s fascinating. They’re suggesting that Trump’s policies have not discouraged new migration to the United States. “More than 76,000 migrants crossed the border without authorization in February, an 11-year high and a strong sign that stepped-up prosecutions, new controls on asylum and harsher detention policies have not reversed what remains a powerful lure for thousands of families fleeing violence and poverty.”
Uh, my friends, the courts have prevented Trump from implementing his “new controls on asylum and harsher detention policies.” The courts have stood smack-dab in the way. They have not been implemented! Trump has tried, but the courts have stood in the way. This is what the left does. Liberals try to control the courts as much as they can for insurance against losing elections. Now, the Times says, “President Trump has used the escalating numbers to justify his plan to build an expanded wall…”
Then the Times goes and gets a bunch of “experts” to say the wall will not be effective. It’s the first time in history, by the way, that a wall won’t be effective. New York Times experts find — for the first time in the history of humanity — that a wall will not work in keeping people out. CNN gets in on the action. They quote the Customs and Border Patrol. “CBP Says System at Breaking Point with More Than 76,000 Migrants Illegally Crossing or Inadmissible Last Month.”
Wall Street Journal: “More Migrant Families Arrested at Border in Five Months Than Any Previous Full Year.” Now, folks, numbers are incredibly hard to follow on the radio. I know that. But I’m gonna run through some of these anyway. Numbers are made for the printed page where you can go back and consult a number you just read to compare it against the number you are at present looking at. But just this little factoid: “More Migrant Families Arrested at Border in Five Months Than Any Previous Full Year —
So 136,000 people traveling as families in five months versus 107,000 in the previous full fiscal year. Keep in mind that this number is family unit arrests. It’s not the grand total of those arrested at the border. Notice that the number for fiscal year 2018, 107,000, is a full fiscal year. We already have surpassed that number at 136,000 arrests, family units, in just five months — and last year was a record year. We have beat a record year in five months!
“Since U.S. Customs and Border Protection began counting family units in 2013, there have been 2.6 million apprehensions along the U.S.-Mexico border.” Now, the kicker: Family units can be anywhere from two to 20 people. So think about what the total number of apprehensions there have been since 2011. It could be in the multimillions! “At the current pace, the number of families arrested at the border could double or even triple [last year’s] record by September.”
“So far in the first five months of this fiscal year, there have been 70 caravans of a hundred migrants or more. There were only 13 caravans in all of last year and only two caravans in 2017,” and a lot of other news sources have this same set of numbers too. This is unsustainable. I mean, that’s the word for it. Now, you might say, “What happens when they’re arrested?” They’re here, folks! We’ve got no place to detain them. We’ve run out of space.
We’ve run out of medical treatment centers. We’ve run out of detainment centers. We don’t have the facilities to house this many people who have been arrested. All of this is by design. Catch, release, give them the date for their asylum hearing for which they don’t show up. They vanish into the system. Democrats find a way to get many of them transplanted into existing families, sanctuary cities and so forth, and the numbers just continue to multiply out of sight after the original numbers are tabulated via the arrests at the borders.
