RUSH: Here is Mark in La Pine, Oregon. I’m glad you waited. I really appreciate that. Hi.
CALLER: Hey, Rush. What a world, what a world. After listening to what you said, it’s like all my stuff is like really petty. But this Tom Brokaw controversy… Uh… It’s like the —
RUSH: Let me… I’ll tell you what. Let me stay state what that is, because I was gonna get to this yesterday and I didn’t. That’s why I’m glad you called about it. Let me make sure people know what you’re talking about. Brokaw was on Meet the Press Sunday, and he said that Hispanics need to work harder at assimilation. Illegal immigrants, Hispanic immigrants to America need to do a better job of becoming Americans. He was tarred and feathered on Twitter.
Twitter did what it does, it “blew up,” and Brokaw was being called a racist and a pig. He said, “It’s one of the things I’ve been saying for a long time. You know, they ought not just be codified in their communities. Make sure that all their kids are learning to speak English, that they feel comfortable in the communities. They need to assimilate,” and he has now apologized. He didn’t mean to offend. He’s totally taken it back. Now, what is your comment? This is not… This is not insignificant at all. This is big. What is your point on this?
CALLER: Well, I just was, like, I couldn’t believe that he had to apologize for being correct.
RUSH: Exactly! He was exactly right. This is what every immigrant to America used to do! It’s what they wanted to do. They wanted to become Americans.
CALLER: Right. Exactly.
RUSH: He’s from a generation where that happened. He said it’d be fine if that’s what they were doing. He got tarred and feathered by his own side, had to get his mind right. He apologized rather than suffer the grief, rather than suffer…
CALLER: Right.
RUSH: It’s cowardice, pure cowardice that affects everybody!
RUSH: When you’ve got to apologize for being right, when the left is able to force you to apologize for being right and force you to say, “That’s not who I am. I not what I really believe. I’m…” People need to stop being afraid of this, but that’s easier said than done. You know, it dovetails with something I was hoping to get to today but I’m not gonna have time to. I’ll just give you a little hint, ’cause I’m gonna do this tomorrow. It dovetails exactly with what I was just talking about here with Brokaw.
It’s time to blow up the bureaucracy that’s killing America, the bureaucratic mind-set. Instead of feeling free to do what we think is right, we go through the day looking over our shoulder scared to death of the authorities. “Are they monitoring? Are they watching? Is everything I do legally correct?” All this. They’ve created this among the citizenry, this fear, and I can’t tell you how that frustrates me every time I encounter it! It bugs the hell out of me, in fact. But I have to wait ’til tomorrow to talk about that.
Thanks again for the phone call.
