RUSH: To Alexandria, Virginia. This is Tammy. We’re on Open Line Friday. Welcome. Great to have you with us. Hi.
CALLER: Oh, my God. What a privilege.
RUSH: I could imagine.
CALLER: (laughing)
RUSH: I can imagine. It’s a privilege for me to have you here too. So what’s shaking?
CALLER: (laughing) Well, first I wanted to let you know I’ve been listening since 1991 when the federal judge I was clerking for introduced me to your program, and so it’s so great to be on here so many years later.
RUSH: And I love that pedigree. Look at where you come from. A federal judge, clerking, and that’s who recommended you. So that’s a wonderful pedigree.
CALLER: (laughing)
RUSH: That’s a great resume. That would get you into the Institute.
CALLER: There you go. And, by the way, I recent gave him a gift of a 24/7 subscription. So I’m sure he’s listening today.
RUSH: Well, that’s awesome! That is… Well, I can’t tell you how sweet that is. You know, what? Since you bring that up, I have to tell you, we are continuing… I don’t know how to say this other than to say it. We are continuing to set records with the size of membership at RushLimbaugh.com. It continues to blow my mind, pleasantly so. It’s great. People are signing up left and right. It tells me how crucially important people think these times are.
CALLER: Right.
RUSH: You would think that the record high would be shortly after we introduced it some 25 years ago, 20 years ago. But no. Man, it is rolling, and people like you are making it happen by giving away subscriptions. I can’t thank you enough.
CALLER: Well, it’s a good product, right? So, you’re willing to spend money on it. So, I wanted to ask you a question of Kasich on his comment yesterday about the caravan.
RUSH: Yeah.
CALLER: So I know how lucky I am to be born in the U.S. I have compassion for all people all over the world who live in poverty, who live under horrible conditions. But 80% of the world’s population lives on less than $10 per day, 50% live on less than $2.50 a day. So my question to him is, “Are we obligated to let all of them into the U.S., to support them all with U.S. tax dollars?” And, if not, how do we choose who to give the gift of coming into the U.S. and who to exclude? I’d like to suggest that we have an answer for that, and it’s called legal immigration, which is the only fair way to make that choice.
RUSH: Hear, hear. Exactly right. The way we have always done it. You know, getting into this country under legal circumstances has always been a privilege, it’s always been an honor, it’s always required some effort. You have to learn about America. You have to want to be an American. Now, as for Governor Kasich, I don’t think Governor Kasich was advocating for anybody in poverty around the world being let into America. That’s not what he was doing.
He was simply trying to advertise the size of his heart.
I think Governor Kasich is still one of these people that thinks Donald Trump has destroyed the Republican Party and the things Governor Kasich cares about. So Governor Kasich wants everybody to know, “Hey, you know, I still have a big heart. I look at these people that are downtrodden and disadvantaged and I still love ’em and I still care about ’em and I don’t think ill of them and we’ve gotta be able to put ourselves in their shoes and understand.”
He just wants everybody to understand that he is a caring, thoughtful, compassionate person as opposed to this bumpkin he thinks is in the White House, ’cause he’s clearly not advocating for every one of them to be let in the country. That’s… I mean, it’s not possible, No. 1, and would never happen. So that’s not his real objective. Anyway, I’m so glad you called, Tammy. Thank you again.
