Disgusting Democrat Ad Backfires, Pushes Virginia Voters to Gillespie

by Rush Limbaugh - Oct 31,2017

RUSH: This is Tommy in Chesterfield, Virginia. Hi, Tommy. How you doing?

CALLER: Great. Thanks for taking my call.

RUSH: Any time.

CALLER: So yesterday you had talked about the black truck ad in regards to Ed Gillespie. I listened to you and I kind of giggled and thought, “Well, that’s kind of silly.” And then I watched the ad. I wasn’t excited about the election in Virginia at all, to be honest. I’m very tired of establishment type Republicans. But this made me so mad. I have every intention of volunteering on Election Day to help Ed Gillespie. I’m tired of being — I’m not sure what the words are, but it just makes me angry.

RUSH: You know what? I totally get it. Gillespie is a Republican establishment guy. I mean, he’s not a Trumpist. He comes from the George W. Bush political operation. And I can understand in this era not being excited about either of these two candidates ’cause they’re both establishment. I get that totally. Then this ad runs, you hear me talking about it, you go look at it, and it just offends every sensibility you have because it’s being run against Republicans, whether they’re establishment or not, and that’s who you are.

CALLER: Right.

RUSH: So hang on a minute, Tommy. I gotta take a break. I thought I had one minute more than I do when I took your call. So don’t hang up.

BREAK TRANSCRIPT

RUSH: Okay. We’re back now to Tommy in Chesterfield, Virginia. How did you interpret that ad? I know you heard me describe it, but when you watched it after hearing me describe it, what was your reaction? Did I overplay it, underplay it? How did you react to it?

CALLER: I guess I would say you underplayed it a little bit.

RUSH: Interesting. Okay.

CALLER: I just… When I watched it, I was so stunned that they even let that go out. I’ve worked in politics before and campaigns, and I just feel like that was a mistake. I can’t imagine anyone in the Republican base not being energized by that and just insulted.

RUSH: What did you think the ad was trying to do?

CALLER: Oh, it’s just a fearmongering ad.

RUSH: Yeah, okay, but let me get specific.

CALLER: That’s about it.

RUSH: Was the driver of that truck, was he actually trying to run those kids down or do you think capture them and put ’em in the back of the payload part of the truck and take them away and deport ’em? What do you think the…?

CALLER: I couldn’t even make the case. (chuckling) I’m thinking run ’em down.

RUSH: Because I’ve talked to people who think both things are true.

CALLER: It’s just that the right-wing conservatives are trying to kill your children.

RUSH: Yeah.

CALLER: I don’t know.

RUSH: That’s the reaction I’ve gotten from most people I’ve asked about it. They’re making it look like that ad was trying to find those kids to run ’em down.

CALLER: Yeah. I was just genuinely and honestly shocked. I have to tell you, I have a friend that reported it to YouTube for hateful content, because she was so offended.

RUSH: Well… (sigh) See, I’m debating whether to… Maybe it’s just I’m too jaundiced, but I was not shocked. I was offended, I was outraged, but I was not shocked. I know who these people are. I know that they are the extremist, mean-spirited, really… These are the people that are causing problems and are everything they accuse us of being.

CALLER: I would agree.

RUSH: There’s just a long line of ads like this. There was an ad run against George W. Bush in Texas in 2000 where a black kid was being dragged on a dirt road by a pickup truck that was somehow identified as part of the Bush campaign. These people are just vicious. But, see, your reaction here. You were… You’re sitting there. You’re not excited. You’re not juiced. You’re not even gonna participate. You see this ad and it’s worked exact opposite way it was intended. Now you’re gonna go do what you can for Gillespie.

CALLER: Absolutely.

RUSH: And I think that reaction is becoming more and more common. Well, I’m glad you called to share this with me.

CALLER: Thank you so much for taking my call.

RUSH: My pleasure. Thank you, Tommy.
