RUSH: I have a “swamp story” for you which could only happen in the swamp.
According to Roll Call, the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Columbia announced last week that a congressional staffer faces a five-year stretch in prison for falsifying a security-clearance form.
Isaac Avant, has been serving as Chief of Staff for Mississippi Congressman Bennie Thompson, the highest-ranking Democrat on the House Committee for Homeland Security. Mr. Avant has been staff director for that committee during the week. On weekends he had to go to jail.
That’s because last January he was convicted of failing to file federal income tax returns. He was sentenced to four months in jail and fined $150,000. But being a high-ranking figure in the Washington establishment he was allowed to serve his time on weekends.
Apparently, Mr. Avant failed to mention any of this on his security clearance form for the Homeland Security Committee. So again he faces charges. This time, he could get five years behind bars if convicted. And there’s no talk about doing time on weekends.
One more detail. Nobody – including Roll Call – can find out if he still worked for the Democrat Congressman, or if he has been terminated. Well, we now know. He still has his job. And that, my friends, is how they roll in the swamp. “Jail? What jail? Not for me.”
