RUSH: Yet another Obamacare repeal went down in flames thanks to Republican Senators John McCain, Susan Collins, and others. It should now be apparent to everybody that there never was any desire to repeal it.
Senator Collins of Maine blamed her opposition on proposed Medicaid cuts. She said that it was “unacceptable” to make structural changes without hearings. Her thumbs-down came despite Senators Lindsey Graham’s and Bill Cassidy’s offer to bribe her – uh, to boost federal healthcare funds for her state by 40 percent to win her vote. She still said no.
Democrat Leader Chuck-You Schumer is gloating. He says once the repeal bill is officially off the table the Democrats will work with Republicans to bail out Obamacare. That means the insurance companies. He wants to find a “compromise” with Republicans that “stabilizes” healthcare markets. That’s the insurance companies. That’ll mean higher premiums, not lower, you watch.
Now for years I’ve told you what “compromise” means in Washington. Republicans fold, and after they cave on their principles they join Democrats to enact whatever the Democrats wanted in the first place.
So here we are. Republicans control the majority of state governments. They control the House. They control the Senate. They control the White House and the agencies of the federal government.
Democrats, the losing party, can barely elect local dog-catchers, but they control the Republicans and their agenda prevails. It’s surreal, but that’s just the way it is. Voters be damned.
