RUSH: Have you heard, ladies and gentlemen, that the Washington Post is worried that the Russians might have tricked James Comey? Isn’t this delicious. “How a Dubious Russian Document Influenced the FBI’s Handling of the Clinton Probe.” The FBI used an unreliable intelligence document in the Clinton email probe. Oh, yes.

“A secret document that officials say played a key role in then-FBI Director James B. Comey’s handling of the Hillary Clinton email investigation has long been viewed within the FBI as unreliable and possibly a fake, according to people familiar with its contents.

“In the midst of the 2016 presidential primary season, the FBI received what was described as a Russian intelligence document claiming a tacit understanding between the Clinton campaign and the Justice Department over the inquiry into whether she intentionally revealed classified information through her use of a private email server.

“The Russian document cited a supposed email describing how then-Attorney General Loretta E. Lynch had privately assured someone in the Clinton campaign that the email investigation would not push too deeply into the matter. If true, the revelation of such an understanding would have undermined the integrity of the FBI’s investigation.”

The upshot here is that people in the FBI at the time thought Comey had been played, not later, not after the fact, they thought it was fake at the time. Now, we’ve heard that there’s nothing but deep and profound respect for Comey in the FBI. Now, why all of a sudden are they starting to dump on Comey? These people are schizophrenic.

One day they love Comey, the next day they hate Comey, now they’re back to loving Comey. I mean, isn’t the guy getting ready to testify? Isn’t he gonna spill the beans? Isn’t Comey gonna come in and expose the memo? Isn’t he gonna come in and destroy Trump? Isn’t Comey gonna come in and show that Trump was doing whatever he was doing? Isn’t Comey going to sell everybody the bottom line and get Trump impeached? Apparently not.

So now it’s time to dump on Comey. How would you like to be James Comey in all this and all of a sudden you wake up and there’s the Washington Post with a story that you’re an idiot? That you got played, that you got duped by the Russians, who are colluding with Trump, and you got duped into destroying Hillary. What kind of a setup is that for your upcoming testimony?

Now, this tells me that I think they have figured out in the media that Comey is not going to be the blockbuster that they have all the hoped, that maybe these memos don’t exist. There’s some allusion to that now. You know, the memo that Comey says he has of Trump interfering and Trump asking him to let it go, the investigation of Flynn, some are saying the memo may not even exist.

And if Comey led the media, which is salivating for stuff like this, if he led the media to believe that he’s got the goods and doesn’t — ha-ha-ha-ha — well, there will be payback. And this might be it. Washington Post: Comey is an idiot, tricked by Russians into destroying Hillary.
