RUSH: Trump was at the Coast Guard Academy today in Groton, Connecticut. He went up there to do the commencement speech. Let’s start with audio sound bites.
THE PRESIDENT: Over the course of your life, you will find that things are not always fair. You will find that things happen to you that you do not deserve and that are not always warranted. But you have to put your head down and fight, fight, fight. Never, ever, ever give up. Things will work out just fine. Look at the way I’ve been treated lately. (laughter) Especially by the media. No politician in history — and I say this with great surety — has been treated worse or more unfairly. You can’t let them get you down. You can’t let the critics and the naysayers get in the way of your dreams. (cheers)
RUSH: I told you, the media, this was the first thing they highlighted. I saw graphics that “never give up, never, ever, ever give up, don’t quit.” They’re ticked at that. They can’t believe it. They think Trump is talking to them. They think Trump is being audacious. How dare him? He’s supposed to cave. He’s supposed to be quivering and cowering in the corner in fear, and this just made them mad. How dare he stand up to us? Here’s the next sound bite.
THE PRESIDENT: Adversity makes you stronger. Don’t give in. Don’t back down, and never stop doing what you know is right. Nothing worth doing ever, ever, ever came easy. And the more righteous your fight, the more opposition that you will face. I’ve accomplished a tremendous amount in a very short time as president.
RUSH: Uh-oh.
THE PRESIDENT: Jobs are pouring back into our country.
RUSH: Uh-oh.
THE PRESIDENT: A brand-new Supreme Court justice who’s going to be fantastic for 45 years.
RUSH: Oh, no.
THE PRESIDENT: A historic investment in our military, border crossings — thank you to our general — are down more than 70% in just a short period of time, a total record, by the way, by a lot.
RUSH: You know, the stock market was down earlier today. I don’t know — let me check real quick here. I have no idea what it’s done since the program started. Down 304? Right. Okay. There’s a lot of room for the stock market to lose ground and still end up way ahead. The point is that a bunch of people are blaming Trump. “Trump’s causing the market to — the market’s crashing ’cause of Trump, Trump’s dangerous, Trump’s killing us, Trump’s destroying us.”
And some people were saying the stock market’s all Trump had. If the market starts going, that’s the end of Trump. I reminded them of things he said. Are you aware of some of the actual progress we’re making, the reversal of fortunes we’re making? I go down the list, some of the things Trump mentioned. They’re not, until you remind ’em. “Oh, yeah. Yeah, yeah, yeah.” And guess what? I have a story here in the Stack of Stuff that’s got a chart. I hate charts. I’d rather get words, but people insist on sending me charts.
So I waded my way through this chart. Only 75% of it printed out. It’s a chart from the Federal Reserve Bank of Atlanta. Do you know what it’s projecting? Economic growth, second quarter — we’re in it right now — 4%. The Federal Reserve Bank of Atlanta is projecting 4% economic growth in the quarter we’re now — do you realize how long it’s been that we’ve had 4% economic growth in any period? It never happened in eight years of Obama. He may have topped out at 3% for one quarter, but he was steady at one and a half, one and a quarter percent. It hasn’t happened yet, but they’re projecting 4% growth.
Illegal immigration down. It’s actually closer to 85% now. Jobs are coming back; manufacturing is coming back. I make a point every day to try to focus on some of the positives. Oil production is up. OPEC is begging us to cut back. Things that are not being reported.
BREAK TRANSCRIPT
RUSH: One more Trump sound bite here today from his commencement speech at the Coast Guard Academy in New London, Connecticut.
THE PRESIDENT: We are setting the stage right now for many, many more things to come — and the people understand what I’m doing, and that’s the most important thing. I didn’t get elected to serve the Washington media or special interests. I got elected to serve the forgotten men and women of our country, and that’s what I’m doing.
CROWD: (cheers and applause)
RUSH: Right on, right on. “I didn’t get elected to serve the Washington media or special interests.”
