RUSH: We got Scott here, Plattsburgh, New York. I’m glad you called, sir. Great to have you here with us.
CALLER: Hey, Rush, how you doing today?
RUSH: Very well, sir. Thank you.
CALLER: My point is that just leave the press alone, let them show themselves for who they are. Their business is marginalizing and discrediting everybody that disagrees with them while they’re putting themselves on display for what they really are. And I believe they’re marginalizing themselves, and they’re discrediting themselves. All they’re doing right now is spreading propaganda and hateful rhetoric, and most people can see through it.
RUSH: You really think that? Whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa.
CALLER: Yeah?
RUSH: You really think most people see what the Drive-Bys are doing?
RUSH: Hey, Scott?
CALLER: Yes.
RUSH: Can I ask you — you don’t have to answer this. I’m just curious for your perspective. Can you tell me how old you are?
CALLER: I am 53.
RUSH: Fifty-three! Interesting.
CALLER: Yes.
RUSH: Well, I would categorize you as an optimist. Most people, by the time they’ve turned 53, have become sort of settled into and defeatist in the idea that the media is ever going to be exposed and weakened. And you seem to think that they’re in the process of doing great damage to themselves with a lot of people.
CALLER: Oh, they are. They’re turning themselves into the newspapers that you read quick as you’re checking out that you never buy. You know, they’re like —
RUSH: They are. I don’t disagree with that. I mean, as I’ve described, I think it’s unhinged, it’s unbalanced, it’s unattached. Detached would be the best word. The question always comes down to, you know, how many people are lapping it all up and buying it. Now, if you look at the NBC/Wall Street Journal poll on the effect of the Comey firing on Trump, folks, the Trump numbers are not great. I mean, he’s basically sitting here 40% approval. But it’s still 40% after a week of this Comey stuff.
And so it would be okay and logical to conclude that the press hysteria here has not resulted in downward movement for Trump in the polls. And you can see in the reporting of the Wall Street Journal story they’re perplexed by this. I haven’t yet seen the NBC story. It’s the NBC/Wall Street Journal poll. They are perplexed by it, and it is reasonable to ask, after a week of this intense effort to destroy Trump, why it had hardly any effect on people.
