RUSH: Here’s Greg in Fort Rucker, Alabama. Welcome, sir, to the Rush Limbaugh program. Hello.
CALLER: Thank you for having me, Rush. How are you doing?
RUSH: Very well, sir. Thank you for calling.
RUSH: Right.
CALLER: And I’ve just kind of realigned my thinking over time. I never listened to your show and I just by happenstance found on you the radio, and I gotta tell you… (chuckling) I mean, I agree with everything you say.
RUSH: Let me ask you now, so you watched The Daily Show, you watched that faux comedy show. They made fun of me all the time, so you didn’t listen to me because you thought I was whatever they said I was.
CALLER: Yes, sir.
RUSH: Now what do you think of The Daily Show? Now what do you think of what you were watching? Since now you’ve listened to me — and you find out they were full of it and I’m a brilliant, nice guy — what do you think of them now?
CALLER: I think they’re horrible. I think they’re a waste of time.
RUSH: You didn’t think that at the time, did you? You loved them. You thought they —
CALLER: No, at the time I was kind of in the crowd, you know, and going with the crowd and crowd mentality. Yeah, I just thought some of this stuff funny. But now whenever I watch the show I don’t think it’s funny. I’m laughing at them, not with them anymore.
RUSH: Yeah. But you still do watch it?
RUSH: I shouldn’t say this. You can never say what I’m thinking I shouldn’t say with any kind of… It always comes off as spoilsport. But all of these… Let me just put it this way: All of these television shows that are really nothing more than showing clips of things in the news and making jokes and laughing about them, that all started on Rush Limbaugh the TV Show, from 1992 to 1994. And everybody who does that now stole it and ripped it off from us.
We were the first to do it. And not only that, we were the first to make fun of liberals. We would find Clinton or other liberals in embarrassing situations or negative political situations and highlight it, make fun of ’em, crack jokes, laugh at what they did. Nobody was doing that. They were only making fun of conservatives or Republicans or Christians or what have you.
But we were the ones, the first ones to turn around on the Democrats. Now there’s all kinds of these shows that do that, and they all credit The Daily Show as being the landmark show where this stuff all started. I never watched The Daily Show. I don’t even know what Comedy Central is, what channel it is. I have DirecTV. (interruption) No, I don’t mean anything by it. I’m just saying, I didn’t bother to watch it. But, Greg, I appreciate the call. I really do.
