RUSH: James Comey, the FBI director, is asking the Department of Justice to refute Trump’s unproven wiretap claims.
“The FBI director asked the Justice Department this weekend to publicly reject Trump’s assertion that Obama ordered the tapping of Trump’s phones. Comey has argued that the ‘highly charged claim’ is false and must be corrected … but the DOJ has not yet released any such statement. … Comey, who made the request on Saturday after Mr. Trump leveled his allegation on Twitter, has been working to get the Justice Department to knock down the claim because it falsely insinuates that the FBI broke the law.”
But, look, on another level, what Comey is doing, it’s quite a remarkable rebuke of Trump, is it not? I mean, Trump alleges that Obama’s wiretapping him. Comey says it isn’t true, it isn’t true, it isn’t true, and the Department of Justice needs to say it isn’t true. So the FBI director’s on record as questioning Trump’s truthfulness.
Trump, for his part, is asking Congress to investigate his claim as part of — (laughing) this is actually kind of funny. Trump is asking Congress to investigate his claim along with their investigation of him working with the Russians to hack the election. (interruption) The Official Program Observer is asking, “How would Comey know whether Trump’s right or not? How would Comey know whether Trump is being surveilled by Obama? How would Comey know whether or not Trump is being wiretapped by Obama or his numerous associates?”
This guy is everywhere. This guy’s at the floor in the House during Trump’s joint speech. He’s at Pelosi’s office. He’s at the White House 22 times meeting Obama. This guy’s in there as much as Robert Creamer was in there, you know, plotting all these protesters showing up at Trump rallies.
