RUSH: Here she is, ladies and gentlemen: Nine-year-old Emily in La Crescent, Minnesota. Emily, I really appreciate that you waited so long, and I thank you very much for it. Hi.
CALLER: Hi. So while I was looking through your books I saw in the third one it doesn’t have the “Where do we go next?” picture.
RUSH: Yeah, I read that. You read the first two books, you’re looking at the third book and in the first two books, you saw the last page, “Where do we go next?” and the current book does not have one of those?
CALLER: Yes.
RUSH: And so you’re wondering if they’re gonna go anywhere again, if there’s gonna be a fourth book?
CALLER: Yes.
RUSH: What do you think?
CALLER: Well, I think Jamestown would be fun.
RUSH: Oh, you think we should go to Jamestown next?
CALLER: Yeah.
RUSH: Why? What is it about Jamestown that interests you, Emily?
CALLER: Well, it’s first English settlement, and it has lots of firsts in it.
RUSH: A lot of firsts there, a lot of firsts in Jamestown. Well, this is fascinating. I love getting reader feedback on the Rush Revere series. Well, you know, here’s the thing. We don’t like to reveal marketing plans. We just like to execute them.
CALLER: Sure.
RUSH: And you’re asking me, you want to know if there’s gonna be another book. Look, I can tell you in good faith I think without getting in trouble with Revere and Liberty, ’cause they kind of like their adventures to be held close to the vest until they’re ready to go, but I think you could feel confident there’s gonna be another one.
CALLER: Okay.
RUSH: Now, whether it’s gonna be in Jamestown or not, even if I knew that — and I do, because the author —
CALLER: (giggles)
RUSH: — I wouldn’t announce it yet. But I’m fascinated though that you say that. It’s great that you are fascinated enough by Jamestown to want us to feature it in an upcoming book. And that’ll happen at some point.
CALLER: Great! (giggles)
RUSH: I’m not gonna lie to you. That’s gonna happen at some point. You can rest assured that Rush Revere and the gang will end up Jamestown, whether they intend to or not.
CALLER: (giggles) Okay.
RUSH: All right? Now, Emily, you have all three books, right?
CALLER: Yes.
RUSH: You do. Have you finished reading them all?
CALLER: Uh, not quite the third one, but… (giggles)
RUSH: So you jumped ahead, you haven’t finished the third book, but you jumped ahead to see if there was a page at the end that indicated where they were going next?
CALLER: Yeah.
RUSH: Very sly. Very crafty of you. Well, I tell you what. As we do with all of the young readers who call here, we want to send you a little package of presents and gifts, if you wouldn’t mind. So if you’ll hang on here, we’ll get an address so we can get some things out. We’ll send you maybe a signed book or two and maybe a Ted-Tea Bear, maybe the CDs of the audio version, and so that you can put them in and listen to ’em, not have to read them again if you want.
There’ll be any number of other things in there, Emily. So thank you very much. I’m gratified that you’re there, and I’m thrilled by your interest, and I’m excited to know that you are going to be pleasantly surprised as we head down the tracks in the future of the Rush Revere series. Thanks for the call. Don’t hang up, Emily. Mr. Snerdley will be right with you.
