RUSH: Here is Obama in 2006 at the Brookings Institution. He’s then a senator. He’s not yet (well, not publicly, anyway) made up his mind to run for the presidency.
OBAMA: We’ve already drawn some of the brightest minds, uh, from academia and policy circles. Uh, many of them I’ve stolen ideas from liberally. Uhhh, people ranging from Robert Gordon to Austan Goolsbee, Jon Gruber; my dear friend Jim Wallis, here. Uh —
RUSH: Wait, wait, wait! Whoa! What did he just say?
He’s at Brookings Institute. He’s talking about all these brilliant minds that he’s stolen ideas from liberally, including Jon Gruber. But let’s go back to sound bite six, Friday, once again to early Sunday morning in Brisbane, Australia. Obama’s asked about what Gruber’s running around saying about lying to the American people about taxes and keeping their plan and all that (when they weren’t gonna be able to) in order to get the bill passed. In other words, Obama’s asked: What about this, what this Gruber guy is saying?
OBAMA: No. I — I did not. Uhhh, I just heard about this… I — I get well briefed before, uh, I come out here. Uh, th-th-the fact that some advisor who never worked on our staff, uhh, expressed an opinion that, uhh, I completely disagree with wuh, uhh, in terms of the voters, is no reflection on the actual process that was run.
RUSH: Right. “I’ve stolen liberally from Gruber. He’s a brilliant academic mind! I’ve stolen liberally from Gruber. Jon Gruber? Oh, yeah!” Now it’s, “Who? Oh, no. He’s some advisor who never worked on this.” Of course, ladies and gentlemen, the story on all this later today from Drive-By Media will be our reaction here on the Rush Limbaugh program to Gruber (chuckles) and whatever Fox News does in reaction.
