RUSH: Congressman Trey Gowdy was on Fox News last night with Megyn Kelly. She asked him about this. She said, “For years now the American public has disliked this law, Obamacare. They have complained that they felt it was crammed down their throats, that there was dishonesty in the process. They were not told the full story. And now you’ve got the chief architect of the law on camera saying (paraphrased), ‘Yeah, we had to lie. You’re too dumb to know what’s good for you.'”

GOWDY: It’s really serious. In a participatory democracy, when you tell your fellow citizens that you’re either not smart enough to understand the truth or we can’t tell you the truth because you wouldn’t go along with it… Well, if you wouldn’t go along with it, maybe you shouldn’t pass the law. It’s not the responsibility of your viewers to read thousand-page bills. Hell, the people who voted on it didn’t read it before they voted on it! So it’s not my fellow citizens’ responsibility to read this bill. I would say this to the professor: Put down the cognac and the lost writings of J.D. Salinger. You want to see how stupid our fellow citizens are? Take a look at last Tuesday night, because they rejected you, this bill, and this administration.

RUSH: That is exactly right. Boy, has that continued to pop up all over the cable TV universe. Katrina vanden Heuvel… What network was she on, Snerdley, where you saw her commenting on me? (interruption) Katrina…? (interruption) Oh, it was one of the…? Oh, she wrote a column. They’re all saying, “Limbaugh, he’s got this stupid belief that the voters said, ‘Stop Obama!'”

These people are so damn arrogant.

It’s like I mentioned to you one time the way the sports media is carrying the ball here on the Redskins name change. It’s a trick that they play, and it stems from their arrogance and their conceit. Okay, so to a bunch of sportswriters decide, “It’s just outrageous. It’s outrageous that the Redskins call themselves Redskins,” and so we’ve gotta change name. They begin the project to get everybody agree to change, and they assume that everybody agrees with them.

They assume that there is massive national agreement the Redskins need to change their name, so that when anybody disagrees they end up being portrayed as extreme fringe kooks. When the truth is the majority of Americans don’t give a damn, frankly. They’re concerned about other things. But the sports media, that’s all that matters when they get off on it, and they run around acting like they are in the majority. That’s what Gruber is doing here.

That’s what all of these Democrats, and even now, after Obama has been soundly rejected and after the American people said to the Republican Party, “We want you to stop him,” they’re all over TV saying that’s not what this is. They can’t get their arms around the fact they’ve been rejected. That simply is not possible. “Reject us? Why, why, we’re the best. I mean, we’re the big clique. I mean, reject us? Not possible.” And they run around thinking this.

But here’s Gruber, I mean, you talk about putting two cans of excrement right in front of the guy and giving him all kinds of warning to not step in it and he stepped in both of them. It’s just such a breach. They say they care so much about the little guy, the disadvantaged, the taken advantage of little guy, and look how they’re putting the screws, and look how they really think and what they really think of people.

Next up with Trey Gowdy, Megyn Kelly said, “Voters bounced out 28 senators who voted in favor of this law,” 28 or 29. And that’s true, 28 or 29 Democrat voters who voted for Obamacare are gone, sayonara, no mas, they’re history. “And yet Mr. Gruber thinks that the American public is stupid. And yet they’re smarter than he thinks because they doubted his assertions at the time. They’ve doubted them ever since.”

GOWDY: I would hope my fellow citizens would keep this in mind the next time anybody tries to sell them a, quote, comprehensive piece of legislation, whether it’s Dodd-Frank, whether it’s the immigration bill the president so desperately wants. “Comprehensive” is Latin for “there’s lots of bad stuff in here,” and he just proved that he is willing to lie. He’s willing to lie because he has the arrogance of thinking that he knows what is best for this country, and the citizens and the voters do not. So keep that in mind the next time anybody tries to sell you on a big piece of legislation by calling it “comprehensive.”

RUSH: I think it’s worse than Gruber and his ilk willing to lie because they have the arrogance of thinking he knows what’s best for the country and the citizens and voters do not. I think it’s worse than that, and that’s plenty bad. But I think the attitude they run around with, I think they have real contempt for what they call average people. I think, to them, the faculty lounge is where the only brilliance in America is, that and wherever people from the faculty lounge end up in government.

I mean, it is such an elitist, arrogant, egotistical attitude that they all have. And their condescension drips with contempt, especially after elections like this where they have been soundly rejected. They can’t tell you how insulted they are, how stupid you people are, how absolutely, embarrassingly stupid. Look what you’ve done now. You’ve just gotten rid of the only really smart people in this country. And as it turns out they’re some of the biggest real-world dummkopfs that you would ever encounter, this guy included.

You know, this previous sound bite where Trey Gowdy is talking about you can’t blame the citizens for falling for the lie, they have implicit trust, it was 2,200 pages. It is worth noting again, nobody that voted for this bill read it! and Pelosi was running around telling everybody, that’s okay, you have to pass the bill to find out what’s in it. That should have been one of the biggest red flags, and it probably was to people who heard it.

Anyway, one more Trey Gowdy sound bite here. Megyn Kelly said, “Do you think the White House needs to speak to this now? We went through the number of contacts he had personally chairing, the president did a meeting with him, touting him as an objective analyst, credible, unbiased, compelling, his Senate testimony. He was presented to us as an honest broker by the administration.”

GOWDY: What difference does it make? I mean, we have the law; we were sold a false bill of goods; it’s going back to court. And they’re laughing all the way to the bank because they lied, they got away with it, and they got the bill that they wanted. So my fellow citizens have to keep in mind, fool me once, shame on you. Ever fool me again, shame on us.

RUSH: It’s the old Hillary Clinton response. “What difference does it make now?” Whether he was credible or not. What difference it make now whether he was any good? They got what they want. They’re laughing all the way to the bank. And they are. And Obama’s laughing all the way to wherever he’s going in China, with all of his grandiose plans. They’re laughing all the way to the bank. Lose the election, no big deal. In fact, we’re gonna turn that around and we’re gonna turn that into a big positive, is how they’re looking at it.

BREAK TRANSCRIPT

RUSH: Okay. We’re gonna start in Hammond, Indiana. James, I’m glad you waited. Appreciate your patience. Hello, sir.

CALLER: Hello, sir. Thank you for taking my call. Longtime listener and first-time caller. I just wanted to say that from the argument that you have been making this morning, the libs and the Dems cannot win on principle of the argument. They must lie. They must obfuscate. They must attack and destroy those who disagree. This is nothing but Obama’s playbook on amnesty, global warming, net neutrality, he’s gonna do the same thing. He can’t win on the principle of the argument, so they have to lie and attack those who disagree.

RUSH: That’s exactly right.

CALLER: I think it’s treasonous, personally. And amen to Trey Gowdy.

RUSH: Exactly right. I’m glad that Trey Gowdy reacted to this the way that he did. I like Trey Gowdy. We interviewed him for the Limbaugh Letter. He’s a serious, committed — I like the guy, really like him a lot. But, boy, have you nailed it again. These people cannot even compete in the arena of ideas. They don’t even want to go there. This is why, you know, I’ve stopped appearing, folks, [on TV.] I’m invited, H.R. could tell you how many times I get invited to Good Morning America, Today show, I don’t go there. There’s no point.

They’re not interested in debate. That’s not why they’re asking me there, and there’s no point in trying to convince them. There’s no point in trying to persuade ’em. I used to believe when I first started doing this and accepted media invitations to appear, I can’t tell you how naive I was. It’s almost embarrassing to think about it. I actually thought the journalists were objective and that I had a chance of persuading them, had a chance of changing their minds. I thought they were genuinely interested — since I was new on the scene — I thought they were genuinely interested in my take, that that’s why they wanted me there.

And it didn’t take long. I got sandbagged a couple times after the greenroom interview, the pre-interview and then what really happens on the program, it didn’t take me long to figure out they don’t care what I think. They’re not interested in what I think and they’re not open to persuasion. That’s not in any way, shape, manner, or form what my appearance is about here.

Their objective, as James said, is not to debate anybody, because they can’t. They’ll not win. They will not prevail being honest about who they are and what they believe in the arena of ideas. And so their entire focus — and you see it every day — is to destroy their opponents. They’re not out to level any playing field. They don’t want a playing field. Their purpose is to eliminate opposition. They don’t want any opposition. Opposition is uncalled for. “Opposition, to us? How silly.”

So I’ve stopped appearing. I’ve stopped trying to talk sense to any of these people because they’re not open to it and they’re not interested in it. Their minds are made up like everybody else on the left and their agenda is completely different. So there’s no way that they’re ever gonna be persuaded. This is why I’ve always said that the only objective that we should have now is defeating them.

And, by the way, they are the aggressors in this battle. We do not have, as part of our arsenal, character assassination, politics of personal destruction. That’s not what we do. We really want people to know what we think and we really want people to accept it. We want people to agree with us. We want an army of people like that. They don’t care. They’re perfectly happy being 10% of the thinking of this country, as long as they’ve got the power over everybody.
