Voting Democrat Won’t Teach GOP a Lesson

by Rush Limbaugh - Sep 18,2014

RUSH: Here’s Paul in Charlotte, North Carolina. Hi, Paul. Thank you for calling. Welcome to the program.

CALLER: Rush 24/7 dittos, Rush. In line with your Battered Wife Syndrome, I have decided this election to vote straight Democrat and Libertarian to punish the GOP because they have treated conservatives so harshly for the last God knows what. Eight years? I’m done. I’m out. I’m leaving the relationship ’cause if I don’t leave it, as that other caller said, I have no right to complain about it. I won’t just not vote, ’cause that’s apathy. I’m gonna vote the other party, and Libertarian wherever there are those candidates.

RUSH: Wait a minute. I didn’t say that Republican voters are exhibiting symptoms of the battered wife. I said elected Republicans are exhibiting those symptoms. You realize you’re not gonna teach ’em a lesson. All you’re gonna do is allow liberals to continue their swath of destruction on the country. If you actually do that, that’s the end result of what you’re gonna do. They’re not gonna learn any lessons from it.

CALLER: If Republicans win, they are liberal anyway.

RUSH: Look, I understand that, but you’ve got to vote about what you’re against. You can’t vote for what you’re against. This stuff has got to stop. We are the last line of defense, here. We have to do what we can do. Giving up like this to teach these guys a lesson? We’ve had people doing this, and it’s one of the reasons we’re in this mess. We had four million people who sat home in November of 2012.

Four million Republicans who voted in ’08 didn’t vote in 2012, and had they, Romney would have been elected. I don’t care what you think of Romney, he would have been much better than what we’ve got. Without question. I mean, that’s not even up for debate. But you’re not gonna show ’em a lesson. They’re not gonna get that. That’s not what’s gonna change their minds.

I don’t have time to get into a full explanation of what happens next, but doing that is not how conservatives can gain dominance of the Republican Party, which is what needs to happen here. You’re not gonna do that by electing the enemy. (sigh) I understand the temptation. I know how frustrated everybody is. I know you want them to find out how livid you are at how they’ve let you down. That’s not gonna do it.

I don’t think they have the ability to recognize that kind of thing, folks. They don’t. They haven’t seen what happened to them in 2012. They’re lying to themselves about what happened in 2012. Their own base stayed home! If anything was gonna shape ’em up and teach ’em the truth, that fact alone would. Four million of their own voters didn’t vote in 2012! If that doesn’t teach ’em anything, you voting liberal Democrat certainly isn’t going to.
