RUSH: This is Matt in Becker, Minnesota. I’m glad you waited, and welcome, sir, to the program.
CALLER: Hi, Rush. How are you?
RUSH: Just fine. I’m great. Thank you.
CALLER: I’ve been listening a long while. I’m only 25 years old, but I’ve been listening my whole life. My dad used to have you on in the car all the time.
RUSH: Well, I appreciate that. This program’s 25 years old, so you have been listening as long as there has been a program. That’s cool.
CALLER: (chuckles) Yeah. Rush, I wanted to just call you with little something I’ve noticed here. I feel like with this Malaysian jet crashing, as unfortunate as that is, it really has given the media a great excuse to ignore Obama and the rest of the G7 leaders and their gross mishandling of what’s going on in Crimea.
RUSH: Oh, no question about it! I mean, while we got Putin doing this Obama’s filling out his March Madness brackets and the media totally devoted to the plane.
CALLER: (chuckling)
RUSH: You’re absolutely right.
CALLER: It’s so frustrating. I consider myself kind of a history buff, and I did a little research on this. The last time I could find where a despot has annexed part of a country under the guise of his countrymen living there, Hitler annexed the Sudetenland, and I think it was 1939. The European leaders and the United States leaders at the time, I believe it, was in Munich Conference okayed it.
RUSH: Let me ask you a question out there, Matt. Even if there had been no Malaysian jet crash or accident — and even if the media were covering this annexation of Crimea, and now the move on Ukraine and maybe Estonia — do you think most Americans would care?
CALLER: (sigh) I don’t think they’d really know. I don’t think they’d take the time to go out on their own and dig deeper, at least deeper that be what the media would tell them anyway.
RUSH: Here’s the thing.
CALLER: I feel like they would take it at face value.
RUSH: Let me tell you what the frustrating thing is. If this were happening — and here it comes. It’s the same old response. If there were a Republican president while this was happening, I guarantee you, Matt, the media would be in overdrive pointing out the importance and blaming the president for ineffectiveness. They’d be laying all of this at the feet of the Republican president.
It’d be how Putin is taking advantage of a weakened United States because we’ve got an ineffective president. They’d talk about the war in Iraq and how many Americans died and how that has paralyzed American foreign policy, how that has paralyzed American military responses to anything. Everybody’d be talking about how rotten the war in Afghanistan was, how we didn’t get Osama.
Every hour, every day, they would be hammering the president for allowing Putin to get so big and do this, and they would make people care. They would spend as much time on it as it took them to cause a Republican president’s poll numbers to start plummeting. The difference is, they protect Obama. They keep any story harmful to him at bay, and if his approval numbers start to fall, they try to prop them back up by showing what a cool guy Obama is with his March Madness brackets, as he goes to ESPN to talk about it.
That’s their purpose.
The left has succeeded in taking over journalism schools. As such, they’ve taken over the education of journalists. Now journalists are not educated in journalism; they are educated in liberal activism. It’s just that simple. And because they’re educated by liberals, they’re not educated to learn. They’re not educated to be open-minded and curious. They’re not sponges absorbing things. They are activists who are moving a cause.
They were all, at one time in their lives, young. They were very impressionable, wanted to get into journalism ’cause they wanted to change the world, or they wanted to do whatever powerful things they thought being a journalist allowed them to do. So they go to the j-schools, and the j-schools have been totally taken over (like every other big-time university department) by the left. You know, it’s often said that Harvard and the Ivy League is the training ground for young liberals to end up in government in the bureaucracy.
Well, journalism school is the training ground for young liberals to end up in the media. They’re all the same. They just have different assignments, job-wise. So whatever happens in the world is going to be shaped — how it’s told, how the story is told is gonna be shaped — by, “How can it help or protect Democrats and how can it harm Republicans?” It’s no more complicated than that. If we could just get people to see that’s what media has become, then we would make some progress here in curing low-information-itis.
Drudge tweeted on Friday something damaging to Obama. They had to destroy Drudge and what he said in order to protect Obama. This penalty thing for not having insurance, that’s bad. Everything about Obamacare is a negative, and anybody who gets a negative aspect of it out with credibility has got to be destroyed, ruined, or corrected. ‘Cause it’s all about protecting Obama, pure and simple, no matter where you go in the Drive-By Media.
