RUSH: “Former US Rep. Jesse Jackson Jr. and his wife have agreed to plead guilty to federal charges in an alleged scheme to spend $750,000 in campaign funds on personal items. The following is a look at the items listed in Jackson Jr.’s charging document, when they were allegedly purchased and for how much.” Again, he used campaign money to buy these things. “Gold-plated men’s Rolex watch, July 2007, $43,350. Bruce Lee memorabilia, bought between August 2007 and August 2008, $10,105. Porcelain collector’s items, January 2008, $1,553.09. Children’s furniture, July 2008, $9,587.64. Rev. Martin Luther King Jr. memorabilia, August and September 2008, $11,130.
“Football signed by US presidents, February 2009, $5,000.” Congressman Jesse Jackson Jr. using campaign money to live the high life. “Michael Jackson memorabilia, bought between August 2009 and March 2010, $22,700.” By the way, did you see the Jay-Z and Beyonce are looking at buying Neverland, Michael Jackson’s ranch? Did you see that? Twenty-nine… (interruption) Well, Beyonce said that she wants a second daughter — or second child. I don’t know if she specified daughter. But they don’t want Blue Ivy to be an only child at Neverland.
The news is out now that Jay-Z, Mr. Z (actually, his name is Carter) is denying this. But they’ve been out there looking at it, Jay-Z And Beyonce. If you name your first child Blue Ivy, what would your second child’s name be? Green Doe? Okay, we’re not through with the Jesse Jackson Jr. list. “Fur capes and parkas, November 2009, $5,150. Eddie Van Halen guitar and Michael Jackson memorabilia, November 2009, $4,000. Malcolm X memorabilia, February 2010, $2,200. Jimi Hendrix memorabilia, March 2010, $2,775.” That’s in the charging document.
This reminds me. I’ve heard something like this before, way back in 2001…
TORRICELLI: To challenge my integrity is beneath contempt. I do not deserve this treatment.
ATTORNEY: Two watches, a Rolex watch, diamond earrings for his girlfriend.
TORRICELLI: I have never —
ATTORNEY: A television set.
TORRICELLI: — ever —
ATTORNEY: Oriental rug, grandfather clock, other antique items.
TORRICELLI: — done anything —
ATTORNEY: Suits.
TORRICELLI: — at any time —
ATTORNEY: Approximately 14 deliveries of envelopes of cash to Torricelli’s house.
TORRICELLI: — to betray the trust of the people of the state of New Jersey. Never!
RUSH: (laughing) “Never!” That’s Bob Torricelli denying it, but the evidence was clear. By the way, that was David Chang’s lawyer. Chang’s the guy that was the Torch’s partner in crime, and that was his lawyer, David Simon, listing all the gifts that Torricelli accepted. So Torricelli was a little smarter. He accepted the stuff as gifts. Jesse Jackson Jr. went out and actually bought the stuff with campaign funds, and the Torch was gone, too. They sent Bill Clinton in there and they got the Torch’s signature, Torricelli’s signature on the bottom. He said he would not run, and that paved the way for Lautenberg to move in.
