RUSH: And back to the phones we go to Columbus, Ohio. This is Timmy. I’m glad you called, sir. You’re up. Hello.
CALLER: (garbled) Hi, Rush. Pleasure to speak with you, sir.
RUSH: Thank you very much, sir.
CALLER: Rush, I want to start out by telling you that I was a Obama campaigner. I actually worked for a city bus company out here as part of the union, and we was asked to go and campaign for him.
RUSH: Hey, Timmy, could you do me a favor?
CALLER: Sure.
RUSH: Could you move that phone closer to your mouth? Would you speak right into it so I can hear you a little better?
CALLER: Can you hear me now?
RUSH: Yeah. You got a little bit better during couple of your words here. Just keep going. I’ll make do.
CALLER: Okay. Well, what I wanted to say is that I’ve been listening to you for probably a little more than three years. And ever since health care, I’ve been a staunch… I really don’t like where Obama’s going right now, and you talked earlier… Remember, I’ve been a Democrat for about 30 years. Health care was what changed me. Health care was one of the things that just changed me altogether.
RUSH: Really? I would think that as a 30-year Democrat, that health care would be nirvana for you. That’s something that all Democrats claim to have wanted all their lives is universal national health care.
CALLER: I was okay with it in the beginning, but the way they went about putting it in place and not letting nobody read it and that whole thing?
RUSH: Ah!
CALLER: Because when Obama became president, he said, “We’re gonna put everything online, let you read it the day before.” That never happened. So then I attended a Tea Party rally that they had downtown, in the downtown area. I went there with animosity in my heart. I wanted to see how racist these guys were, you know? I’m African-American, by the way. So I went up there, and everything they talked about I agreed with! (chuckles) I was like, “Wow. They’re not that bad.” And you had spoke earlier… I wanted to get a couple other things in real quick. You spoke earlier about how NBC has been lying.
I don’t know if you heard the latest, but this is the whopper of them all. NBC did a piece. I was at a rally that Romney was at just recently. I’m sure you heard about it, and NBC has been reporting that at the end of Ryan’s speech, they started saying, “Ryan! Ryan! Ryan!” Then MSNBC said, “Well, Mitt Romney jumped in there kind of jealous. “No, no, no, guys. Say, ‘Romney-Ryan! Romney-Ryan!'” Well, that’s not what happened at all. That was a complete lie, ’cause I was actually there. What happened was that after Ryan spoke, they were saying, “Romney! Romney! Romney!” and then Mitt Romney jumped in there and said, “No, no, guys. It’s Romney-Ryan! Romney-Ryan!”
RUSH: Now, wait a second. I had not heard that.
CALLER: They’ve been reporting it all day today, that same thing, and they were saying, “You know, well, support’s fallen off. Everybody wants Ryan on top of the ticket.” It’s a complete and utter lie, and I’m getting to the point now with NBC, they have been committed to just lying constantly. I don’t even… I’m not for the whole boycott thing, really, but I would suggest people don’t listen to them at all. Don’t pay any attention to them, because everything that comes out of that station is a lie.
RUSH: Okay, I got… Timmy, I need to ask you a question. See, I had not heard this. But this doesn’t surprise me. So what they were saying was, “Romney! Romney! Romney!” and Romney goes, “No, it’s Romney-Ryan.” And NBC reported they were shouting, “Ryan! Ryan! Ryan!” and Romney wanted his name thrown in? You couldn’t lie any more clearly than that.
CALLER: Exactly.
RUSH: Now, my question to you is, the narrative of the day is that the American people, a majority of them, are totally down with the economy. They’re fine with the way Obama’s handling it. They think that he’s the best guy to handle it, that he cares and he’s working hard and that people like you believed Bill Clinton when Bill Clinton said, “Nobody could do any better than Obama’s doing!” It’s people like you that we’re told, in the polling data today, are all-in for back home now. Obviously if you’re out there finding NBC lies and you’re upset with the lack of transparency, that great, Timmy. That is great. If every citizen were as attentive as you are, we wouldn’t be in this mess.
CALLER: Well, Rush, let me tell you. Like I said, I’ve been listening… I’ll be honest with you. I used to believe all of that. Anything that came out of the media, I believed it. I believed it like it was the gospel. Up until… I’ll be honest with you: Since I’ve been listening to you… I’m telling you the honest-to-God truth. I’ve learned more about politics in the last three years than my whole 30 years (chuckles) of being a Democrat.
RUSH: Wait. I need to ask you a question. I need to ask you a question about that, for my own professional knowledge so that I can use this. I’m gonna take advantage of what you’ve just said. I’m very curious about something. How did that happen? Because I’m sure that you — in addition to believing everything the media said about Obama being loved and being great — believed what the media said about me. So how did…?
CALLER: That’s a very good point, and remember: I was a part of a union. You were a topic of conversation quite often, a lot. They were always calling you racist. They were always saying, “Oh, Rush Limbaugh, did you hear what he said?” As a curiosity note — ’cause I drive, and I listen to the radio — I started tuning you in, ’cause you used to come on, I think, right after Glenn Beck at one point. I started listening to you just to see, you know, how racist you really were.
RUSH: (laughing)
CALLER: I wanted to see —
RUSH: (laughing)
CALLER: — and as a result, I actually started listening to what you were saying.
RUSH: I was such a racist, you had to find out how big a one.
CALLER: Exactly!
RUSH: (laughing)
CALLER: And as I kept listening, I never heard racism. I said, “I don’t hear that coming out of his mouth. I mean, what are you all talking about?” And I don’t know. I never heard anything like what you were portrayed as, as to what I was listening to. It was like night and day. It’s like when you first discovered that Santa Claus doesn’t exist. It’s like, “Wow.” I mean, all this stuff I actually believed. But everybody that said that never listened to you, I doubt.
RUSH: That’s true.
CALLER: When I actually started listening, when I actually started listening to the content of your show and listening to what you were saying and actually doing my own homework and actually looking up what you were saying, everything that you were saying was absolutely true. And then I would watch the other channel, and I would find so many flaws in everything they would say. They would say things that were kind of true but leave out little parts of the story that you would find out would actually make the story a lot different than what they were reporting.
RUSH: Timmy, you’re a special guy. Because I’m sure a lot of people encounter this, but you somehow were able to overcome whatever prejudice or bias you had about this stuff. And the things that you did not believe somehow penetrated and got through to you where they don’t other people. .
CALLER: Right.
RUSH: Other people, they live in their cocoon, and they have what they believe — and anything that challenges it, they automatically reject it rather than consider it. You considered it. You wanted to do a side-by-side comparison of what people were telling you and decide for yourself.
CALLER: Well, I wanted the truth, really. I just didn’t want somebody telling me what to think, and I think that Democrats… I just recently discovered this myself. I think Democrats as a whole want you to all follow the leader. I’ve never really followed. Like the whole abortion thing, I really was not a person who favored abortion.
RUSH: Right, right.
CALLER: I didn’t favor gay marriage and stuff. Yet I was still a Democrat. And a lot of people in the African-American community feel that same way.
RUSH: Timmy, I’ve gotta take a break here, but hang on. We’re just gonna be a few short minutes. We’ll be back, and we’ll complete Timmy’s call when we get back.
BREAK TRANSCRIPT
RUSH: Okay, Timmy, welcome back. This is Timmy in Columbus, Ohio. I tell you what. During the break I went and found the story about the Romney-Ryan rally you talked about.
CALLER: Yes, sir.
RUSH: It’s a Breitbart story, and here’s the essence of it: “A clip from a recent Romney-Ryan rally has recently been played over and over at MSNBC highlighting what appears to be an embarrassing moment on the campaign trail for Governor Romney. Originally aired on Wednesday’s ‘Morning Joe,’ the clip shows Paul Ryan introducing Romney as the MSNBC-added text appears on the screen proclaiming that the crowd is shouting ‘Ryan!’ Romney gets the mic and asks the crowd to say ‘Romney-Ryan!’ Joe Scarborough covers his face and grumbles out the words, ‘Sweet Jesus.'” According to people at the event… And you say you were there?
CALLER: Yes.
RUSH: “‘[T]he crowd was screaming “Romney! Romney!” and Romney, being the gentleman” he is, went to the microphone and asked them to say Ryan along with his name.
CALLER: Correct.
RUSH: The Breitbart source, the reporter, says he studied the tape and, quote, “What appears to be an unpopular Romney seeking appreciation and attention from a Paul Ryan-infatuated audience is really a man who is generously deflecting attention away from himself onto his VP nominee.”
CALLER: Exactly. And to me, what they were trying to do is make Romney seem like he was, you know, embarrassed.
RUSH: They’re making him try to look insignificant and an ego freak at the same time.
CALLER: Exactly.
RUSH: Insecure. Insecure and an ego freak.
CALLER: Exactly. What it actually showed was a person who had actual character, in my opinion. Because he was, you know, deflecting all the attention from him and saying, “No, guys, we’re a team. This is my guy! Give him some credit also.”
RUSH: Now, Timmy, you said something very interesting before the break. You said you want the truth.
CALLER: Exactly.
RUSH: And I can’t tell you how wonderful that is to hear, ’cause you realize most partisan Democrats are gonna watch what MSNBC is doing and applauding it as a clever campaign maneuver in the war against Romney. You were on the verge of saying it. You’re tired the Democrat Party’s lies.
CALLER: Yeah, I am. I am. Rush, you gotta understand: I live in an all African-American community. When politics come up, especially over the last two years, I am not the most popular person. I’m surrounded. (laughing)
RUSH: I know how you feel.
CALLER: (laughing) I’m literally surrounded and being bashed (laughing) and being bashed. I feel like Ann Coulter on The View yesterday.
RUSH: (laughing)
CALLER: I’m being bashed, and I’m basically trying to get people to see what’s really going on. I don’t really feel that, especially in the African community. They feel like because Barack Obama is black, you have to vote for him. Why? Why do I have to vote for somebody because of his color, not because of his character?
RUSH: Timmy, it’s not just African-Americans. There’s a bunch of white liberals — and actually not just liberals, guilty white people who think they have to vote for the black candidate, otherwise they’re racist. I mean, that’s a large part of Obama’s vote in 2008 was guilty white people who were trying to demonstrate that they’re not racist anymore.
CALLER: Right.
RUSH: They were hoping that electing Obama would get rid of all the racism in the country, that there really were a lot of people hoping that.
CALLER: Uh-huh.
RUSH: Of course, we here knew that the left would only take the occasion to ratchet up racism by saying that any criticism of Obama was racist, and that’s exactly what they’ve done.
CALLER: And that’s offensive to me, too. That’s one of the parts that really offends me is when I watch people, especially on MSNBC, bring up every single issue as racist and trying to make me believe what Larry O’Donnell is saying, which… He’s a complete joke. But they want me to believe that because he says it, I should believe it? I’m an African-American; I know what racism is. Because somebody brings up the sport of golf doesn’t make him racist. That doesn’t come out as racist to me. I mean, he had brought up a subject about golf. So?
RUSH: That’s a reach. That’s a reach. I know. Their whole existence is a reach. Their whole campaign is a reach. Look, Timmy, I have to run here. You are fabulous. I can’t tell you how thrilled I am to have a guy like you in this audience.
CALLER: Well, it’s nice talking to you.
RUSH: I wish… If everybody — if we just had 51% of the country made up of people like you… Well, 55% to account for some stragglers that defect.
CALLER: Right.
RUSH: If 55% of the people in the country were as sharp and as aware as you are, there would be a lot of us with a lot fewer concerns.
CALLER: Well, I appreciate it, sir. It was a pleasure talking to you.
RUSH: No, wait, before you go away, are you a computer enthusiast? Do you have a computer? Do you use one or iPad or any of that stuff?
CALLER: Yeah, I have a ThinkPad, an IBM ThinkPad. It’s pretty good. I like it.
RUSH: (stifling laughter) I’d be embarrassed. Well… (laughing)
CALLER: (laughing) It’s okay! At least it works.
RUSH: Okay, so you got your ThinkPad and you like it, so I’m gonna give you a choice here. I’m gonna give you a choice. I have… Let’s see. I’m pretty sure… If I don’t, I will have soon. I’ve got a Verizon iPhone 5, or a Mac Pro. The MacBook Pro, the 15-inch Retina display laptop computer.
CALLER: Wow.
RUSH: Normally I would decide what the guest gets and force it on them, but you pick. Which one do you want?
CALLER: Are you serious?
RUSH: Yeah.
CALLER: Wow.
RUSH: I have a Stash of Stuff. You said Santa Claus. I like playing Santa Claus now and then, when it feels right. It feels right here, so…
CALLER: Well, Rush, I really wasn’t expecting that, but, I mean —
RUSH: That makes it even better.
CALLER: I would love the MacBook, I guess.
RUSH: All right. Well, then we’ll get it out today. You hang on. Mr. Snerdley will get your address, and you’ll have it tomorrow via FedEx Saturday delivery.
CALLER: Well, thank you, Rush! I really appreciate that.
RUSH: No, we appreciate you, and everybody in this audience is appreciating you. Everybody in this audience. I’m telling you, you have people in this audience applauding and wishing that there were a whole lot more people like you out there, ’cause we think the country depends on that. We think we’re on the verge of losing the country as it was founded, and we desperately want to hold onto it, and we know that it’s gonna require people like you being informed, up to speed, and being passionate. Just wanting the truth. You said the magic words. So it’s been great talking to you. You hang on. Do not hang up. The next voice you hear will be the Official Obama Criticizer, Bo Snerdley.
