Don’t Fear Social Issues

by Rush Limbaugh - Feb 27,2012

RUSH: Let me ask you a quick question, folks. I checked the e-mail during the break. I’m not surprised. There are still a lot of people out there who are scared to death about the social issues. I got a couple e-mails: “You know, Rush, you are killing the Republican Party with your insistence on talking about this. You should be steering people away from it!” If the Republican Party is dying, I have nothing to do with it. I don’t run ’em. Let me just pose a question: If you’re nervous about the social issues being discussed (and the polling data, by the way, does not show that it’s hurting) let me just ask you a question, or present a hypothetical for you — and be honest about this. Barack Obama and Rick Santorum have a debate on faith and the Constitution.

Who do you think most Americans would agree with?

Do you think most Americans would agree with Obama on faith and the Constitution? Do you think most people would agree that Barack Obama, if he said so, would agree that he’s got the authority to mandate that anybody provide anybody else contraception or birth control or what have you — or make ’em get abortion, whatever it is — in violation of the First Amendment? Who do you think would win that debate? I don’t think it would be even close. Look at what Obama would have to defend! Obama would have to defend infanticide and partial-birth abortion. Do you think he would? Those two things are indefensible. You have a debate over this kind of stuff and there’s no way any Democrat wins this debate!

Let Obama make the case, in a debate, for infanticide. Let him make the case for what he proposed in legislation and voted for. You have an abortion and it doesn’t go right, which means the baby survives. So a second doctor is called in to finish the job. Because the original intent of the mother was to abort the baby and the original doctor blew it, so bring in another doctor (a third party, if you will) to finish the job. You think Obama’s gonna win that debate supporting infanticide, as it is described, partial-birth abortion? Do you think Obama would win that? Obama would have to defend same-sex marriage. (New Castrati impression)

“No, Mr. Limbaugh! Mr. Limbaugh, you’re terribly wrong. President Obama has said…”

No, he wants both sides of this issue, but everybody knows that Obama is for same-sex marriage. Everybody knows it. Even his supporters know it. They wink at him. Obama would have to defend exclusion of the Christmas tree from the public square. If he didn’t do all of these things in a debate, his own side would be fit to be tied. What I’m trying to get to, the problem is not that the subject has come up, the problem is dealing with it properly. The media and the left are bigots about this stuff. All we’re saying is: “Don’t run from it. If they bring it up, okay, fine. Don’t cower in fear. Don’t be afraid of it. Just take it right back to them!”

By the way, in the Wall Street Journal today, you know what? There’s an op-ed by Rick Santorum, and you know what’s it about? It’s about his economic plans. That’s right. That’s right. Santorum has an op-ed in the Wall Street Journal today about his economic plans. Have you seen any coverage of this? You haven’t? You haven’t seen ’em talk about this on PMSNBC? Have you seen them talk about it at Fox? Have you seen ’em talk about it on CBS, NBC, ABC, New York Times, Washington Post? I didn’t think so. (interruption)

Well, no, it just came out today. Meet the Press couldn’t have talked about it because it runs today. Wait, maybe it ran last Friday. You may have a point. I’m not sure when it ran. The point is it isn’t being discussed. He’s got an op-ed on economic plans. I think it runs this morning. Now, who banned prayer in the public school and when did that happen? Who started the war on religion in the public sector? Who started all this? Who are the real bigots? Who are the people trying to deny people religious freedom? Let this come up in a debate. Let it come up! I don’t know why people have to be afraid of it. I know that I, El Rushbo, am not.
