Despite confiscatory prices at gas stations – a plan to import more oil is stalled in Congress.
Calgary-based TransCanada is seeking approval for a pipeline that could double the amount of oil we get from an existing Canadian pipeline. But Democrats and their environmentalist-wacko allies are lined up against it.
The proposed new pipeline would go from Canada through Montana, South Dakota, Nebraska, Kansas, and Oklahoma – and end up at refineries in Houston and Port Arthur, Texas. The State Department must grant approval – and House Republicans are pushing a bill to force them to make a decision by November 1. Although an environmental report was released last year, a new one was ordered anyway. Last month, the State Department said the report didn’t raise any new concerns.
But liberals are still trying to block the pipeline, on the grounds that the oil to be imported is “dirty oil” – requiring a lot of energy to extract. They also complain a spill would be an ecological disaster. And liberal partisans Henry Waxman of California, and Bobby Rush of Illinois are questioning if Koch Industries – which has no financial interest in the pipeline – would profit somehow … because they’re Republican donors.
So. Even though we’d lessen our dependence on Mideast oil, gas prices would go down, and thousands of high-paying American jobs would be created, Democrats stand in the way. Why? They are liberals, first. Country – and everything else – comes in a distant second!
