CALLER: Thank you, Rush. You just said exactly what I was going to say, because compromising our principles is what we set it off with. I was selected as a delegate to go to the Republican convention in Orlando back in October, on October 20th and 21st at the debate and at that time there was a small group of us conservatives that were called in and said that if we didn’t compromise our position, we would end up with a Democrat in the White House, and from that point on, October the 20th, I decided, ‘You know what? I’m done compromising. I’m always the one that’s asked to compromise. It’s time for the moderates to.’
RUSH: There you have it! There you have it, Dr. Land!
CALLER: I quit.
RUSH: There you have it, Dr. Land! There you have it, McCain people!
CALLER: That was October 20th and October 21st, and I still have the paperwork right here in front of me and I hope my mom is listening, because I told her at the time. She said, ‘You can’t just quit.’ I said, ‘Yeah, I quit. If that’s the best we’ve got, then that’s the way it is.’ We were also told at the time, too, Charlie Crist was going to take this very staunch position for McCain when the time was right of McCain’s position was where it was, and it turns out Charlie Crist’s timing was just exactly the way they said it was going to come down, and it did.
RUSH: Yeah. Meanwhile, Crist was telling everybody he was going to stay neutral —
CALLER: That’s right.
RUSH: — and then he made Rudy think that he was gonna endorse him. Look, you’re a delegate so this stuff matters to you. But all these politicians endorsing other politicians, we all know what that’s about. It’s about the future. That’s about power. That’s about favors. They’ve all picked sides. They’ve all figured that McCain’s gonna win. They want to be on that side at the end of the day when the election is over even if he loses. They want to be on that side of the aisle after he gets the nomination, if he gets the nomination. That’s the way politics works. But we here, folks, we are not politicians. They come and go. I am forever. I am here as long as I choose to be, as are you, but you heard it. This guy from Clearwater is a delegate. They told him to compromise if he wanted to stay a delegate. It was up to him. This party is moving left. It wants to go left. It acts like it doesn’t care. ‘McCain is an American, Rush! He’s a patriot. He’s a POW. He has got great character.’ They’re putting all those things up. They will not philosophize about McCain’s positions. They keep trying to sweep them under the rug. It doesn’t matter. I listen to what he says, and I listen to what his supporters are saying, and there is no question that they’re going out of their way — even in the primaries — to attract support from liberals, independents, and moderates. After that, they expect unity in the general? (interruption) Dawn’s asking me to tone it down. She’s starting to sigh, get concerned. I appreciate that.
