RUSH: Let me tell you what’s been manufactured. It is not your energy, it is not your passion, it is not your presence at all of these town halls. That’s genuine; that is real. What has been manufactured is the story that it has been manufactured. In fact, the only person who has put out a memo organizing his troops and rallying his troops is none other than the Dear Leader Barack Obama himself. Late afternoon he put out an e-mail to his minions. He went out there and he told them to hit the streets and knock on doors. That’s the real rent-a-mob! Barack Obama! The real manufactured anger is that which Obama is manufacturing and trying to create. The other mob anger is genuine, and Mary Katharine Ham has found the way the Drive-Bys are making all of this up.
‘When the ‘manufactured’ outrage the Left is trying to demonize lines up so inconveniently with public polling, it’s sometimes necessary to create evidence for the ‘manufactured’ storyline,’ meaning we’ve got public polling, nobody wants this health care plan. His approval number is now 50%, Quinnipiac. It makes perfect sense with his poll numbers on health care and his approval, there would be people out there protesting this. So that’s inconvenient for the people who want to try to poke holes in the genuine nature of the protest. So… ‘Enter Think Progress, which unearthed this shocking, secret memo from the leader of a small grassroots conservative organization in Connecticut, which allegedly instructs members on ‘infiltrating town halls and harassing Democratic members of Congress.’
‘Right Principles PAC was formed by Bob MacGuffie and four friends in 2008, and has taken in a whopping $5,017 and disbursed $1,777, according to its FEC filing. ‘We’re just trying to shake this state up and make a difference up here,’ MacGuffie told [Mary Katharine Ham] during a telephone interview. He’s surprised at his elevation to national rabble-rouser by the Left. Right Principles has a Facebook group with 23 members and a Twitter account with five followers.’ This is the Mr. Big of the ‘mob’ movement! MacGuffie describes himself as an ‘opponent of leftist thinking in America,’ and told [Mary Katharine Ham] he’s ‘never pulled a lever’ for a Republican or Democrat on a federal level.
‘Yet this Connecticut libertarian’s influence over a national, orchestrated Republican health-care push-back is strong, indeed, if you listen to liberal pundits and the Democratic National Committee, who have crafted a nefarious web out of refutable evidence. Think Progress highlighted his memo’s directives to ”Yell,’ ‘Stand Up And Shout Out,’ ‘Rattle Him’,’ calling it a ‘right-wing harassment strategy against Dem[ocrat]s.’ The blog falsely connected MacGuffie to the national conservative group FreedomWorks through the most tenuous of threads. The Think Progress link that purports to establish [this little guy] as a FreedomWorks ‘volunteer’ leads to his one blog posting on a Tea Party website (on the free social networking site, ning.com).
‘Think Progress calls Tea Party Patriots a ‘FreedomWorks website.’ The problem is it’s not … ‘There is no formal structural connection,’ Brandon told me. ‘Never has been. Never will be. We’re just fellow travelers in the movement.’ When I asked MacGuffie if he was a volunteer for FreedomWorks outside the specious evidence Think Progress cited, he said, ‘Absolutely not. You can Google all day; you won’t find it. There is no formal connection. I don’t know anyone from FreedomWorks.” Now I’m going to jump a little forward here because the Think Progress memo purports to reprint from McGuffie’s website verbatim. They do not appear in McGuffie’s memo, but they do appear in the headlines in Think Progress’ block quote of it.
Here is what McGuffie wrote for his website: ‘Spread out in the hall and try to be in the front half. The objective is to put the Rep on the defensive with your questions and follow-up…’ Think Progress wrote this headline: ‘Artificially inflate your numbers.’ He never wrote that. He never said it. The next item: ‘You need to rock the boat early in the representative’s presentation. Watch for an opportunity to yell out and challenge his statements early.’ The Think Progress headline: ‘Be disruptive early and often,’ but he didn’t write it. They added it. The next block, quote: ‘The goal is to rattle the rep, get him off his prepared script and agenda. If he says something outrageous, stand up and shout out and sit right back down.’ Think Progress adds this line: ‘Try to rattle him, not have an intelligent debate.’
‘The attempt to paint [MacGuffie] as a professional, funded operative is off-base, MacGuffie said, laughing. ‘I guess they don’t believe that people in America will stand up and fight back when government gets overbearing,’ said MacGuffie, who added that he originally e-mailed the memo to 8-10 Connecticut activists in June.’ This is the Mr. Big of the unruly mob! ‘As is often the case, MSNBC anchors and the DNC alike have taken Think Progress’ inaccurate sleuthing at face-value, elevating the humble Right Principles to heretofore unknown levels of national importance. … The memo also includes these phrases, which are left out of the reporting and demagoguery: ‘Do not bring the signs into the hall if you want any chance to be picked for a question.’ ‘Don’t carry on and make a scene, just short, intermittent shout-outs,’ which may sound familiar because the shout-out part was quoted without context by Think Progress.’
So to summarize this, Mary Katharine Ham has just unraveled these SOBs with this memo. It makes the libs look really, really stupid — and, of course, the media. This is on a par, folks, with Dan Rather and the George W. Bush National Guard story. There is no Mr. Big of the unruly mob other than me. I am the Mobfather. But the guy that they’ve singled out as the Mr. Big — the giant website funded by the insurance companies and all this — is just a little guy out there in Connecticut who sent it out to eight to ten people. And then they lie and make up what he said in his memo when they report it. And the dufuses over at MSNBC and elsewhere report it! Remember, by the way, a call I think — this is Thursday, probably earlier this week.
Snerdley, help me out here. Remember the woman who called and said she was watching Richard Wolffe on the NBC nightly news and Richard Wolffe reported that all of these protests were drummed up, that they were not genuine. Remember her? Somewhere from Kansas, yeah. Maybe Wichita. I forget her name. But she had been watching Richard Wolffe at NBC, and Richard Wolffe reported what Think Progress has reported, that there was a guy out there drumming all this up, that it was a guy out there organizing, it was a guy out there agitating — and there isn’t. None of that is true. This is all genuine. The only guy who’s put out a memo to his organizers to get in the game is Obama, and he did it in an e-mail late yesterday afternoon.
This is how it works. I tell you they’re unraveling. They’re having… They know they’ve got a loser. And, you know, there’s another thing, folks, that we need to point out. We keep talking about Obama’s health care plan, but did you know he doesn’t have one. We know of one health care plan and that’s what we’ve all read, that 1,000-page monstrosity in the House of Representatives. There are going to be some more bills coming out of the Senate but we don’t know what they are yet. There is no Obama plan. He didn’t know what was in the House plan. He didn’t know. When somebody asked him, ‘I can lose my private insurance?’
‘Why, I’m unfamiliar with that plan.’ He doesn’t have a plan! That’s why he doesn’t talk about it specifically. That’s why he won’t debate it with anybody. He doesn’t have a plan. There is no Obama health care plan. There is… Oh, there is the focus group change health ‘insurance’ reform, not health ‘care’ reform. They have been focus grouping this and that’s why they have zeroed in on the insurance companies. There is no guiding principle other than: make the government bigger, take away people’s freedom and liberty, get even with the parts of this country that you don’t like, and throw sops to your buddies in the tort bar and the public sector union bosses.
That’s who you have to make happy. And they are all a bunch of socialists themselves, feeding off the public trough and they want a bigger bite each and every day — and Obama is there to give it to them. I tell you, this is a circumstance, ladies and gentlemen, that I am ecstatic to see. This is genuine. You know community organizers can’t bitch when communities organize. Of all the things, of all the things to happen created out of the energy of the citizen involvement in his country — of all the ways Obama can get picked at — is by a bunch of people organizing in communities opposing his ramrod, reckless, dangerous, socialist health care plan down people’s throats who do not want it. And that’s why I say: A community organizer can’t bitch when communities organize.

RUSH: We’re going to go to the audio sound bites here starting at number two. This is actually a discussion of this phenomenon on NPR, a montage of a report by the host at NPR this morning, All Things Considered, Andrea Seabrook.
SEABROOK: It’s happening in Maryland, Connecticut, Ohio, Missouri and more. Local conservative groups often from the antitax tea party movement are crashing lawmakers’ public appearances and making headlines for it. Today’s protests appear to be from fairly small numbers of people, whipped up by the conservative media like Fox News and Rush Limbaugh.
RUSH ARCHIVE: I’ll tell you these town hall meetings are erupting all over the place. We’ve got audio sound bites from more of them.
SEABROOK: What may have started as a spontaneous outcry has become more of a political strategy. After town hall video started popping up on YouTube, it didn’t take long for the Democrat Party to wade into the fight. The result is the modern form of an all-out August PR war.
RUSH: Yeah, the only organizing being done, the real mob ruler, Andrea, is Barack Obama himself. And you know what, something I forgot to mention to you. That memo he sent out yesterday afternoon from his office, from the Oval Office, from Barack Obama to his 13 million supporters also asks for donations. It’s a fundraising e-mail from the president of the United States at his personal website, BarackObama.com. In addition to marshalling and mobilizing forces. And Ms. Seabrook, are you going to do a story on the AFL-CIO organizing its own members to go out and try to counterbalance what the citizens at the town hall meetings are doing? Service Employees International Union, going to get all these union groups? Remember all of this is about the tort lawyers and the public sector union bosses.
I don’t know how many czars Russia has had throughout its history, but we have about 44 of them in this administration. It’s a very un-American characteristic as well, to have czars who are not accountable, they don’t get appointed, approved by the Senate? When’s the last time that you heard Nancy Pelosi talk about liberty, private property, and capitalism and merit? When’s the last time you heard her praise success, investors, job creators, et cetera? When’s the last time you heard that from any Democrat leader? In fact, aren’t all those groups demonized? Capitalism, private property, liberty, success, investors, job creators? They are the enemy in this administration. They are the ones on the enemy’s list, and they have been on the Democrat Party enemy’s list for quite a while. This morning on MSNBC, Dylan Ratigan hosting the show. Contessa Brewer is on there with him, co-anchor. He says, ‘There’s talk of a new tea party switching gears, a call for national so-called recess rally protest to health care reform being made here. Contessa, what exactly are they protesting?’
CONTESSA BREWER: They’re protesting a lot of different things but in this case it seems to be the big overhaul reform legislation of health care. It may not be entirely as it seems though. There is a lot of evidence a lot of the so-called grassroots anger is being manufactured, even orchestrated by conservative republicans. That big recess rally, some of the organizers here, we’re looking at a FOX News analyst, RedState, a right wing blog, American Majority run by a former Bush speech writer, Sam Adams Alliance, Americans for Prosperity run by conservative activists. So there is some indication, organization at play.
RUSH: Of course there’s organization at play! People want to find out what to do, where the town hall meetings are and where to go. But this is a great example of the lies MSNBC is telling after believing a fabricated memo from Thinkprogress.com. Mary Katharine Ham blogging at the Weekly Standard threw this thing through the wringer and demonstrated how phony and fraudulent it is, yet they don’t question at MSNBC or at NBC. They just continue to report it. This morning also on MSNBC, the co-host Carlos Watson speaking with former Clinton Labor Secretary Robert B. Reeeeeeeich. And Carlos Watson said, ‘I’m not convinced that Republicans can use this as a galvanizing fight as they look to regain some momentum.’
REICH: They will definitely try to do that, Carlos. But remember the Republican Party today is very, very defensive. Their major spokespeople are people like Dick Cheney or Rush Limbaugh. They don’t have the stature they once had. They don’t really stand for anything. They haven’t come out with their own health care plan. So you have a Republican Party that really is looking for issues, looking for ways of reasserting themselves. A defeat on health care would be a great way of giving the Obama administration a black eye, but they’re not going to be able to do that. Again, 51 votes is all the Democrats need to get health care or a significant part of health care through the Senate this fall.
RUSH: Ah, that 51, 51, that’s very important. Let me focus on that before I analyze something else that the former labor secretary said. Now, we all know that it takes 60 votes to get anything done in the Senate, and the Democrats have 60 votes. So what’s he talking about 51? It’s a term, ladies and gentlemen, called reconciliation, and it’s not all that old. Reconciliation is primarily used, the 51 votes is used to get budget bills through and budget bills only. It is considered so important, the budget, run the country, 51 votes, simple majority. In other words, they got rid of the filibuster cloture rules for the budget. So if you get reconciliation, 51 votes, the Democrats are thinking of using reconciliation to get health care through the Senate. Now, I don’t know that the American people, enough of them are informed of what a bastardization of Senate rules that would be. That will be up to Republicans in the Senate to shout loud and clear about what’s being done here, because the fact of the matter is they have 60 votes. If they’re going to go the reconciliation route, what it tells me is that they don’t have 60 Democrats willing to vote for this.
Now, Secretary Reich said, ‘Rush Limbaugh, Cheney, they don’t really stand for anything. They haven’t come out with their own health care plan.’ How can the president have a plan, Mr. Secretary, when he has no plan? What is Obama’s plan? There is a House bill. That bill has not been read by the president. He says he doesn’t know what’s in the House bill. The Senate hasn’t produced a bill, so we don’t know what that is. So the president and his minions are out promoting a plan that doesn’t exist. His plan, what is it? The president cannot answer a question by saying, ‘Let me turn to Page 23.’ When he gets a question about his health care plan, he cannot say, ‘Oh, no, let me show you my plan here.’ He’s out there saying that you won’t lose your private insurance, but there is no plan. The only plan that addresses that is the House plan in which we will lose our private insurance. And he said he doesn’t know that was in there. So he hasn’t read the House plan. He doesn’t have a plan of his own. What the president is doing is pushing feel-good fantasies.
You know, the interesting thing here is that former Labor Secretary Reich, ‘They don’t have the stature they once had, they don’t stand for anything. They haven’t come out with their own health care.’ The hell we don’t have our own health care plan. We’ve been talking about what to do to fix health care for I don’t know how long. But it’s important to point out, you might think this is an asterisk, but he doesn’t have a plan. There is only the House bill which he hasn’t read. ‘Are you saying, Rush, he’s not involved?’ No, no, don’t misunderstand. I know exactly what he wants to do and so do you, but he won’t tell you.
He hasn’t put his plan out there. We know exactly what this man’s going to do. We know exactly what he wants to do. We know exactly what he wants to use this plan for, to regulate and control as much of everybody’s life as possible. It’s not about providing more health insurance for people. It’s not about providing more health care for people. In fact, let me find it. The Washington Post, I don’t know how this happened. I don’t know how this happened. The Washington Post on its website today has the most fascinating graphic comparing various aspects of the House bill to the Senate bill. And let’s go to coverage. Let me click on coverage here. If the House bill doesn’t happen, there will be 53 million uninsured by 2019. If the House bill passes, a $1 trillion abomination, if it passes in 2019, there will be 17 million people without health insurance.
Now, hell’s bells here, folks. I thought the plan was to insure everybody who wasn’t! No, it’s not. Let’s go to the Senate bill. Somebody at the Washington Post has seen a version of the Senate bill, and if the Senate bill happens, 36 million will be uninsured in 10 years, by 2019. Neither plan fully insures everybody. The House leaves 17 million uninsured, the Senate 36 million uninsured, for a trillion dollars. We can insure 12 million people. I ran the numbers on this, remember, three or four weeks ago. We can insure 12 million people for around $29 billion, and it was right there in the stimulus. This isn’t about insuring the uninsured. This isn’t about anybody’s health care. This is about Obama building monuments to himself and establishing a power base that can never lose in the future.

RUSH: I want you to remember one thing, ladies and gentlemen, as this hot August heats up. All this talk about right-wing mobs and right-wing organizing is covering up the real reason it is happening in the first place. Why are people showing up at the town hall meetings, Mr. Snerdley? (interruption) Well, Snerdley’s answer is ‘Because they don’t like the policy,’ which means what? (interruption) No. It means they know what’s in the bill! These people are showing up out of genuine outrage. They have read the bill. The members of Congress, they are going to attend town hall meetings have not read it. They have been given cheat sheets from Nancy Pelosi before the recess to brief them. We know what is in this abomination, page by page!
Members of Congress and the United States Senate do not. And that’s being drowned out in all this mob talk. But the reason this is genuine is precisely because it originates out of substance. It has evolved from substance. The people showing up know what’s in the bill. They have read it page by page, and these elitist imperial members of Congress have not.
