The Budget Battle Has Just Begun

RUSH: Marty in our nation’s capital, Washington, DC. Welcome to the EIB Network. Hi.

CALLER: Oh, thanks. Thanks, Rush, it’s a privilege.

RUSH: Yeah, thank you.

CALLER: Hey, Rush, listen, I’m real concerned about this deal the Republicans made with Obama. I mean it sure looks to me like we’re caving because the math doesn’t add up. I mean Paul Ryan was talking pretty tough about how Republicans were gonna demand $4 billion in savings every two weeks the Democrats and Obama delayed in signing a budget. Well, if $4 billion is all we save for the next two months — two weeks, and this keeps up, the way I figure it’s 26 two-week periods times $4 billion every two weeks, only adds up to $104 billion a year in cuts, and that’s the same figure Obama himself came up with. So if I’m Obama, Reid, and Pelosi I’m gonna take that deal every time. They must be laughing up their sleeves at the Republicans. Is there something I don’t understand here, Rush?

RUSH: Not only that, we gotta keep going through the process. If it’s just a two week stopgap, guess what we gotta do for the next two weeks? We gotta go through this whole thing all over again. It’s a self-repeating cycle.

CALLER: But wouldn’t they just keep doing it every two weeks? It seems like we haven’t done anything.

RUSH: Well, these $4 billion cuts were Obama’s cuts, from his budget.

CALLER: Yeah, that’s right, he didn’t give up anything he wasn’t gonna give up anyway.

RUSH: I know. The GOP did this so that the Democrats could not object. I mean that was one of the strategies here. It’s Obama’s cuts so the Democrats couldn’t object. The next cuts are gonna be the Republicans’. Let’s keep a sharp eye on the next two weeks. Before we get hastily depressed here, let’s see what happens in the next two weeks, these next round with their cuts, see what happens.
