One of the primary duties of the United States Congress is to complete a budget –in the fall. This election year, fearing voter reaction to their massive spending, Democrats never put together a budget.
It was a strategy. Days ago, Harry Reid dropped a 2,000-page, trillion-dollar spending bill on the Senate, demanding that it be passed immediately. To ensure limited debate, he also scheduled the Senate to take up the newSTART nuclear arms treaty with Russia. He also announced plans to pursue an amnesty bill for some illegal aliens, and the repeal of Don’t Ask Don’t Tell.
This trillion-dollar-plus omnibus spending bill was loaded with over 6,000 earmarks –the kind of wasteful spending voters went ballistic over in November. Democrats were counting on two things: one, that Republicans would just go along, out of fear of bad publicity over a government shutdown at Christmas; and two, that voters would forget this duplicity before 2012.
But the best laid plans of man and Demo-ratswent terribly wrong. After learning that Republicans were going to force theDemocrats to read the wholebill aloud, Harry Reid threw the omnibus under the Obama-bus;he pulled it from consideration(at least for now).
But the fact remains, though: Obama, Reid, Pelosi, and their Democrat minions fresh from the biggest election defeat in recent historywere prepared to stick up their middle finger at you, the American voter, once again. And know this:they’re going tokeep trying as long as they hold elective office.
