RUSH: Here’s Merry in Washington, nice to have you on the EIB Network. And welcome.
CALLER: Hi, Rush. It’s so nice to talk to you. I tried to get in before and, oh, I’m so nervous. And I got through once and Snerdley hung up on me and I cried and I tried again and I got back in. First of all want to let you know that I have thanked God many times for you because I think you’re a gift to us for the conservative voice.
RUSH: Thank you very much.
CALLER: And also how you’ve brought out all the other voices that are out there. I don’t know… I honestly believe you’re a gift from God. I don’t know what we’d do without you.
RUSH: Well, you know, there were many, many people who thanked my mother for giving birth to me.
CALLER: Yeah, well, I do, too.
CALLER: Yeah. She should be. Or she should have been. I’m sure she was.
RUSH: She was.
CALLER: And I also wanted to say that I’m very, very happy that you and Kathryn found each other.
RUSH: So am I.
CALLER: And I hope you have a great many years.
RUSH: You know, a boy chases a girl ’til she catches him.
CALLER: (chuckles) That’s right. That’s right. Well, the main reason I called is that over the years that I listened to you, there have been times when I have actually doubted you.
RUSH: Oh, no!
CALLER: Yes.
RUSH: No!
CALLER: Isn’t it awful? I’m apologizing to you through the radio when you turned out to be right and I turned out to be wrong. So I just want to tell you today that everything that you’re saying, that I want to say, ‘Dittos,’ but more than that I want to say, ‘I don’t doubt you,’ and I believe everything you’re saying about the Democrats.
RUSH: And the media. I’ll tell you, Mary, it’s also about the media, and I want you to have nerves the steel this week and next, after the election. It’s going to be brutal. I mean, you think what they’re doing to Sarah Palin, Christine O’Donnell now, what they have done up ’til now is vicious. It’s going to intensify this week, and it will intensify even more after the elections.
BREAK TRANSCRIPT
RUSH: I got this e-mail. ‘Dear Rush: I have a bone to pick with you. You say you have talent on loan from God, as we all do, and I agree with that. So why aren’t you telling your audience that they should be praying to God so that we win really big in this coming election and to continually pray to him? Remember what’s impossible for man is possible with God.’ Now, when I saw this, I said (sigh), ‘What in the heck is this?’ I decided to print it out and read it to you because it reminded me of a story. If all you’re doing is praying for a victory, it ain’t enough. God helps people who help themselves. I will never forget being told how the Soviet Union tried to convince their children that God didn’t exist.
They would get two potted plants and they’d put them in a window, and they would water one, and not water the other — and they said, ‘We’re going to make one plant grow; we’re gonna leave the other one to God.’ Of course, the plant that they took care of and nurtured and watered grew, and the plant that they didn’t died. And that’s how they would convince people that there wasn’t a god. The answer is: ‘God helps those who help themselves.’ You can sit around all day and pray, it isn’t gonna matter a hill of beans if you’re not willing to get out and do something about it yourself! Pure and simple.
