DASCHLE: The Obama administration has put a very high standard on public service. That’s especially true when it comes to taxes.
GARRETT: Failed to report $73,000 in 2005 —
DASCHLE: — all my life I’ve assiduously tried to pay my taxes —

DASCHLE: — in full and on time.
GARRETT: — $93,000 in 2007.
DASCHLE: When I realized the mistake, I notified officials, and I paid the tax in full.

DASCHLE: My failure to recognize that the use of a car was income and not a gift —
GARRETT: — failed to report $83,000 in income.
DASCHLE: — but that’s no excuse.
