In 1975 CBS, the once-powerful network, aired the The Jeffersons– a sitcom about a black family who realized the American dream through husband George’s dry cleaning businesses. The theme song told their story: the Jeffersons were “movin’ on upto that deluxe apartment in the sky…they finally got a piece of the pie.”
Well, it’s a little over 30 years later now,and another African-American family is doing their best to “move on up” –this time to that deluxe mansion at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue –and they want the pie too.
Last week, talking with”Joe the Plumber,” Barack Obama let slip his plan to “spread the wealth”; levy high taxes on those who succeed;to fund programs and giveaways to those he deems more deserving –echoes of what his wife, Michelle (My Belle) Obama, said at a campaign stop in April. She said: “The truth is, in order to get things like universal health care and a revamped education system, then someone is going to have to give up a piece of their pie so that someone else can have more.”
Every one of you– out busting your butt everyday to have a shot at the American dream– must understand: If the Obamas move on up to their deluxe apartment in the sky, they are finally going to have a piece of YOUR pie. They want good times for the Obamas, and “just deserts” for you.
In the words of George the Dry Cleaner: “WEEZIE! That damn tax man is here again!” They’re coming for all of us if they get to the mansion.
