RUSH: McCain appeared on The View today, and he was swarmed. He was ambushed, even by Baba Wawa. But of course Whoopi Goldberg was there, and Joy Behar. I have often articulated a philosophy, and I employ it often on this program: Never get into an argument with a fool, because when you do that the audience won’t be able to tell the difference between you and the fool. The fool will drag you down if you don’t know how to deal with them. So McCain goes in there. He answered all the questions. He hung in there. But this television show appeals to the same fringe-kook base that’s out there doing all of this blogging and coming up with these weird statements like ‘Jesus was a community organizer; Pontius Pilate was a governor.’
By the way, the latest Hollywood celebrity to add to that is Susan Sarandon. She said it last night on a red carpet at some premiere of some movie. Listen to this. This is on The View today. Joy Behar says, ‘There are ads running from your campaign, one of them is saying that Obama, when he said, ‘You can put lipstick on a pig but it’s still a pig,’ was talking about Sarah. There’s another ad that says that Obama was interested in teaching sex education to kindergartners. Now, we know that those two ads are untrue. They’re lies.’ No, Joy, both of them are true. We’ve got the bill! We’ve seen the actual bill that was put up for a vote in the Illinois Senate that Obama supported, and it wiped out the six-through-12 grades and added kindergarten in it. Sex education, comprehensive, for kindergarteners. He voted for it! These people are so uninformed, it’s laughable. So you go in there and you start messing around with these people, and it’s a tough chore. So she says, ‘And yet you, at the end of it, say, ‘I approve these messages.’ Did you really approve them?’ You’ll hear Barbara Walters in here as well.
MCCAIN: Actually, they are not lies, and if you’ve seen some of the ads that are running against me —
WALTERS: By the way, you yourself said —
MCCAIN: But the point is —
WALTERS: — the same thing about putting w’ipstick on a pig! You yourself used the same expression!
MCCAIN: When I was talking about a health care plan.
WALTERS: Yeah, but he talked change!
AUDIENCE: (applause)
WALTERS: He wasn’t talking about Sarah Pa’win.
MCCAIN: Senator Obama chooses his words very carefully, okay? He shouldn’t have said it. He shouldn’t have said it. He chooses his words very carefully. And this is a tough campaign. But I would be glad to come on this show with Senator Obama. I have asked Senator Obama to join me in town hall meetings all across America. I’ve been in a lot of other campaigns where I have appeared with the opposition in front of the people and listened to their hopes and dreams and aspirations. I don’t think you’d see the tenor of this campaign.
RUSH: He won’t do it. He hasn’t the talent to do it. He can’t pull it off. He’s scared to do it. That’s why he’s turned down the 10 invitations to town hall meetings. But you know, this little bite we have is just a snippet. Whoopi Goldberg was just over the top. I mean, she was talking about witches and wiccans and all sorts of stuff, peppering Mccain. He hung in there. He didn’t back down. But the audience was just applauding all of the genuine ignorance and stupidity. And I’ll tell you: Ignorance is the most expensive commodity we have in this country. Ignorance costs us more than any government program does. It’s just incredible when you see it.
BREAK TRANSCRIPT
RUSH: I told you that McCain went on The View today. Whoopi Goldberg says, ‘I don’t want to misinterpret what you’re saying. Did you say you wanted strict constitutionalists?’
MCCAIN: No. I want people who interpret the Constitution of the United States the way our Founding Fathers envisioned for them to do.
GOLDBERG: Should I be worried about being a slave, returning to slavery, because certain — certain things happened in the Constitution that you had to change.
RUSH: Should I be worried about being returned to slavery. This is what passes, the audience sits there and they applaud this stuff on the show. (laughing) Somebody described her as a five-star imbecile. Whoopi Goldberg is a five-star imbecile, a glittering jewel of colossal ignorance. What Whoopi doesn’t realize is that she’s already a slave. She’s a slave to liberalism. She is a slave to ignorance. She is an arrogant, condescending pseudo-informed and educated person who has no clue that she’s already a slave. So don’t worry about it, Whoopi. You’re already a slave.
