RUSH: Evelyn in Overland Park, Kansas. Hi. You’re on Open Line Friday.
CALLER: Yes, hi, Rush.
RUSH: Hi.
RUSH: Wait a minute, now. Evelyn, do you actually intend — did you mean this, or was this a nervous slip because you know you’re speaking with millions of people listening.
CALLER: Yes, I know I’m speaking —
RUSH: Did you mean to compare me to the bloated, bigot propagandist Michael Moore?
CALLER: Oh, yes, I do, Rush.
RUSH: Oh, Evelyn, now, be serious. I can’t believe I have somebody in my audience that is that blind.
CALLER: I think your audience, I think all of us that listen to this type of thing, we ought to be ashamed of ourselves.
RUSH: (laughing)Well, then turn it off!
CALLER: In fact, if you were my child, I would be ashamed of you for putting forth what you put forth.
RUSH: My mother was proud of me!
CALLER: Oh, well… I…
RUSH: My mother was proud as she could be. Evelyn, I can’t believe you’re saying this. Do you know how wrong you are?
CALLER: Why can’t you believe I’m saying it?
RUSH: Because you’re totally wrong. This audience is not a bunch of mind-numbed robots taking ‘tidbits.’
CALLER: I’m not saying just your audience is. I’m saying the audience that listens to both sides of this type of stuff that is put out to us.
RUSH: Wrong.
CALLER: Both sides.
RUSH: You are once again —
CALLER: I think we are —
RUSH: No. You are insulting the basic intelligence of people.
CALLER: No I’m not.
RUSH: Yes, you are because you’re saying they can’t make up their own minds, that they are influenced by little tidbits.
CALLER: Rush, just because you say I’m insulting them does not mean that I am insulting them.
RUSH: Okay? See what I said? I say when you get into an argument with a fool, you oftentimes can’t tell the difference.
CALLER: I am not a —
RUSH: This is a very risky thing to do.
CALLER: So you’re going to treat me just like the rest you treat. (sic) You’re not going to listen to me.
RUSH: I am listening to you but, look, why should I? Evelyn, you’re wrong. You really don’t know what you’re talking about here, so why should I listen to that?
CALLER: Why should they listen to you? Why should they listen to Michael Moore? Why should they listen to Hannity and Holmes?
RUSH: Ask them! What are we supposed to do, watch Mr. Rogers reruns all day?
CALLER: You know, that would be an improvement.
RUSH: I thought so. Thanks, Evelyn. (sigh) You know, I got up today thinking this was going to be a great day. I’m going to Cleveland tomorrow for the Steelers on Sunday night. I got a lot of things to look forward to here, and it’s bad karma day here on the phones!
BREAK TRANSCRIPT
RUSH: Chico, California. This is Aaron. Thank you for calling, sir. Nice to have you with us.
CALLER: Rush, mega 82nd Airborne dittos.
RUSH: Thank you, sir.
CALLER: Hey, look, I need to call and respond to that lady who called before the one you just had.
RUSH: That would be Evelyn from Overland Park, Kansas.
CALLER: Yeah, wow. I cannot believe she actually compared you to Michael Moore. I live out here in Northern California within the sea of blue liberals and it’s hard to take everyday but the one thing I hear from liberals is how they say people like and you Hannity are so divisive. What they don’t understand is that it’s divisive to us when we hear our own beliefs and our own values just utterly disgraced the way they treat Sarah Palin with sexism and with utter disgrace and nothing that gives her respect when they’re the ones who tout all this and you’re the one who points these things out to us and makes us learn and want to learn more on the issues rather than just accepting what people have been accepting for almost 30 years with mainstream media.
RUSH: Exactly right. You know, the way to understand liberals, when they talk about divisiveness, that’s just a device. They use all kinds of devices to discredit and to destroy political opponents because they don’t dare come to the middle of the arena of political ideas and debate because they lose. So their modus operandi is to destroy the opposition. So when they say that people like me are divisive, that’s simply their way of saying, ‘I don’t like hearing this guy, he doesn’t say what I want to hear, we gotta shut him up.’ I understand these people. I understand these people like every square inch of my glorious naked body. That woman from Overland Park, there are a lot of people like that, too. She just doesn’t like any stress, she doesn’t like anything that makes her feel like she’s in the middle of confrontation, but she can’t stop listening to it. She has a simple out called the on-off button on the radio.
CALLER: Yeah, it’s weird with liberals, too, because when you start showing them actual fact like either global warming or the war or whatever have you, when they bring up the subject and then you start showing it to them, they’re like, ‘I don’t want to talk about it anymore,’ because it totally challenges their worldview and it’s just ridiculous, they refuse to listen.
RUSH: Let me tell you something, they’re funny, and they clearly are laughable. If these people ever become a majority and gain power, they’re Stalinists, they will act on this stuff that they believe. I don’t think that there are that many of them. I think that their numbers are amplified by the Drive-By Media. Now, they are the base of the Democrat Party, but I don’t think that they’re that big a number. I’m talking about the genuine kooks, the genuine lunatics. There are quite a few of them, I’m not trying to disparage this, but I still have faith in the people of this country. This is one of the reasons I’m so grateful for the Sarah Palin nomination, her pick, and her campaign because it’s just exposing more and more every day who these people are, and believe me, there are plenty of rational, ordinary, decent Americans who are repulsed by this. They’re repulsed by what they see and hear said about her. This line about Jesus was a community organizer and Pontius Pilate was a governor, that is not being covered by the Drive-Bys, the effect of that line, who it’s offending and who it’s outraging, but don’t doubt me. There are gazillions of Americans who hear that line used by these leftists who are going to keep it going, they hear Jeremiah Wright, and, believe me, they want no part of it, they don’t consider it to be legitimate, they consider it to be dead wrong, and they want to do what they have to do to defeat it.
We have not lost our exceptionalism as a country. We have not lost our decency, and these people are cruising for an implosion, and it’s been going on a long time, but it’s really intensified since 2000, since Algore lost, 2004 John Kerry. We make the mistake, ladies and gentlemen, of comparing ourselves to them in the sense that we think that we’re rational and we consider ourselves normal. So when things go wrong and we screw up and we don’t win, we feel maybe we’re wrong about something, or maybe we did something wrong, so we start examining ourselves. They don’t. When they lose elections, when they lose issues, it’s always because of fraud or somebody cheated. It’s never them. Well, maybe they used the wrong word, it’s never what they believe, they always get cheated. So they never, ever seriously examine what’s wrong with them. They lost in 2002, they lost in 2004, they lost in 2000. And what did they do? They intensified their radicalism.
It’s like members of the Drive-By Media, the only business in the world where the customer is always wrong, and if you complain about bias, they get more biased, and they say, ‘Here, take this, you dunce, you’re not sophisticated enough to understand our jobs. Screw you. You think we’re biased now, try this.’ And then they start licking Obama, and they start saying, ‘We,’ when reporting Democrat Party news, like John Roberts did on CNN. ‘We’re looking better today,’ he said. So they don’t learn their lessons, they’re not introspective at all. These people just to want wipe out the opposition, but they’re more and more radical and they’re being more public about it, and believe me, it is not helpful to them, folks. Trust me on this.
