RUSH: Ruth in Hemet, California, it’s great to have you here.
CALLER: Thank you, Rush. Thank you for your continuing education. I’m calling regarding the bonfires on the beaches?
RUSH: Yes.
CALLER: The government has already restricted many uses of campsites in the mountains. Now they’re working on the beaches — and by extension, I think, so many people celebrate the Fourth of July with bonfires and they’re on the beaches, many of them. I think that’s part of the whole conspiracy, and I’m very slow to believe in conspiracies.
RUSH: You think it’s actually related to July Fourth celebrations, celebrating America that they want to stop the bonfires?
CALLER: Well, eventually that’s what it will lead to because people go to the beaches to celebrate holidays, especially Fourth of July, which is so important to us.
RUSH: Olivia in Dallas. I’m glad you called. Welcome to the EIB Network.
CALLER: Hi, thank you for taking my call.
RUSH: Yes?
CALLER: I only started listening to you this year, around March.
RUSH: Wow.
CALLER: Yeah. (giggles)
RUSH: Are you up to speed? It only takes six weeks to get the context of this program.
CALLER: Yeah, but, um, I remember you talking to one of the callers about how you’re afraid that some Democrats are going to swamp the Republican Party and not really stay true to the party, but I think there are conservatives in the Democratic Party and I believe that I’m actually one of them. So…
RUSH: Well, then can you tell me what conservative in the Republican Party is appealing to you to get you to join us?
CALLER: Right. Well, I think it really is Obama (giggles) oddly enough. I think he has brought out all of the things that conservatives had been talking about that I thought were wrong, and I think they’re right.
RUSH: Wait, I want to make sure I heard you right. You say you’re a conservative Democrat?
CALLER: No, I realized that I’m just a conservative. Not a Democrat, not a Republican. I’m just conservative.
RUSH: Are you a registered Democrat?
CALLER: I’m a registered Democrat.
RUSH: And it’s Obama that’s drawing you over?
CALLER: Yeah. I think it’s other things like personal experience in life and blah, blah, blah.
RUSH: I understand. I totally agree with this.
CALLER: But I think that Obama has made it crystal clear that I have nothing in common with the liberal agenda and the Democratic Party.
RUSH: That’s absolutely right. But the problem is, there’s nobody on the Republican side saying, ‘Come on over as a conservative.’ They would love for you to come over as a Democrat. What would be optimum here would be if we had somebody on our side — other than me; I’m talking about an elected official —
CALLER: Right.
RUSH: — who would appeal to people like you and say, ‘My home is the Republican Party.’
CALLER: Right.
RUSH: So what this election is going to turn on — She’s exactly right. You’re exactly right on the money, Olivia. This election is going to turn on people voting for Obama or against him.
CALLER: Right. But I’m totally ready — I live in Texas but I’m totally ready — to work on the local politics.
RUSH: Yeah.
CALLER: You know, getting in like congressmen and other people that can start changing the agenda, ’cause I’m really tired of this crap.
RUSH: Way to go.
CALLER: I started reading Barry Goldwater. I started watching Fox News, and reading Weekly Standard, and listening to your show, so… I just wanted to make that point. (giggles)
RUSH: I’m sure that’s what happened first, by the way.
CALLER: Mmm-hmm.
RUSH: Listening to my show, I mean.
CALLER: Oh yeah!
RUSH: Yeah.
CALLER: Listening to your show was definitely the first thing, and I had heard you like a long time ago — even though everyone had been telling me how horrible and awful and evil you were — but I thought the feminazi thing was, honestly, one of the funniest things I’ve heard in my life. So… (giggling) I’ve been secretly a fan for a longer time than you think, so…
RUSH: Well, I appreciate it. Olivia, nice to have you home.
CALLER: Thanks!
RUSH: All right.
CALLER: Bye.
RUSH: It’s interesting. (sigh) I hate to say it, but I think it’s going to come down to Obama being elected or not elected. It’s incidental on the other side.
