RUSH: Ann Marie in Largo, Florida, hi, Ann Marie, welcome to the EIB Network.
CALLER: Hi, Rush, it’s an other than to talk to you, been listening to you since the cradle. I’m 23 years old, and my question to you is: Why can’t we buy Mexico? I’m sure there’s some sort of reason, maybe financial or something, but it would be easier to control the Panama Canal than the entire Mexican border.
RUSH: (Laughing.)
CALLER: (Giggles.) I’m half joking of course, but —
RUSH: No, you’re half joking but in every joke there’s an element of truth.
CALLER: Of course. Of course.
RUSH: So I think you’re calling here wanting a serious answer as to why don’t we just buy Mexico.
CALLER: Right. I could ask my congressman, but he has to answer me as if I wasn’t half joking, and I kind of am.
RUSH: You know that’s not going to happen.
CALLER: Of course.
RUSH: That’s not going to happen.
CALLER: Of course. Of course I know that.
RUSH: The bigger problem is that Mexico is going to end up buying California for nothing and we’re going to pay them.
CALLER: (Giggles.)
RUSH: And then Arizona.
CALLER: Mmm-hmm.
RUSH: We used to do this. We made the Louisiana Purchase. We bought parts of Mexico once. We bought California from them. Everybody thinks we invaded Mexico and conquered the territory, but we actually bought some things.
CALLER: That wasn’t too bad, either.
RUSH: You know real estate and what they say about it: location, location, location.
CALLER: (Giggles.) Right.
RUSH: And there might be reasons for doing it, but we’re not a country that has any visions of such expansion as we used to have, because now we have global interdependence and trade and so forth to take advantage of relationships. What I think what we ought to do is, for one thing, just give them back California.
CALLER: (Giggles.)
RUSH: We’ve already lost it anyway. Give them back California. Maybe call a truce. The California libs wouldn’t mind. The California libs wouldn’t mind. They’d be happy to stay.
CALLER: Absolutely! Sure! They would love to become Mexican citizens, and they could have it.
RUSH: They can grant the right for the San Franciscans to secede.
CALLER: They could get rid of their bottles water. They wouldn’t be able to drink water, and that would be the end of it there.
RUSH: Now, now, now, now!
CALLER: (Giggles.)
RUSH: Let’s not go there.
CALLER: I just thought they want to be American citizens anyway, the Mexicans, so I thought they would be happy.
RUSH: Uh, uh, uh, see, you have once again fallen for the ruse.
CALLER: Oooooooh, darn.
RUSH: The ones that we’re talking about here, the illegal immigrants, they’re not looking for citizenship. By definition, they’re going around the law to become legally admitted to the country on a path to citizenship. They don’t want citizenship, and the immigration bill was not going to grant them that. It was going to grant them immediate legal status, and the only reason they would incur fines or anything is if they sought citizenship which they’re not going to do that.
CALLER: Right. Okay.
RUSH: So this was not about citizenship. It was not about assimilation. That’s the whole point.
CALLER: See, this is why I wanted to talk to you, because I get an entirely new mental perspective on everything. So thank you so much for your time. I appreciate it.
RUSH: That’s really nice of you to say. I appreciate that.
CALLER: (Giggles.)
RUSH: Thanks so much for the call, okay? You have a good weekend.
CALLER: You, too.
