RUSH: Yes, my friends, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez has rebuffed all of the fact-checkers out there. She came out, as you might remember, and compared climate change to World War II. (summarized) “We only have 12 years to stop Hitler! We only have 12 years to stop the Nazis from taking over the world!” In this case, climate change is Hitler (aside from Trump), and the Nazis are all of the things that we are doing to destroy the planet. Twelve years. We had 12 years.

Well, the fact-checkers got in gear. (Not the liberal fact-checkers. The Drive-By Media dutifully reported it or dutifully was sympathetic to it.) So some people started fact-checking this and Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez was kind of caught short. She didn’t expect that. Cortez is used to saying things and having friendly media bow down and simply report it — but, more importantly, not challenge her. Well, this got her challenged because even people who believe full-fledged in man-made global warming don’t think it’s gonna happen that soon.

They think it’s gonna happen, but not in 12 years. Many of them still think it’s gonna happen after they die. “Democratic New York Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez complained Sunday that GOP fact-checkers were taking her ‘dry humor’ literally. ‘This is a technique of the GOP, to take dry humor + sarcasm literally and “fact check” it,’ she tweeted. ‘Like the “world ending in 12 years” thing, you’d have to have the social intelligence of a sea sponge to think it’s literal. But the GOP is basically Dwight from The Office so who knows.’

“And when Ocasio-Cortez first made the claim, she certainly appeared to be playing up the absurdity of the statement for effect. But those responsible for the 2018 UN report on climate change — from which Ocasio-Cortez drew her ’12 years left’ conclusion — did not consider their work to be an attempt at ‘dry humor,'” and that’s where she got it! It’s our old buddies at the U.N. making this prediction. Now, I think Cortez has it exactly backwards. It’s not us that don’t get satire and parody. We do satire and parody. We own satire and parody here at the EIB Network.

Remember the entire city of Washington went on a three-year witch hunt based on a joke Donald Trump told. He was in Miami and he said, “Hey, Russia, maybe you could find the missing 30,000 Hillary emails. Hey, our media are the looking for them. If you can find them, I’m sure they’d love to have them.” That’s even in the Mueller report as an example of Trump perhaps obstructing justice. That’s in the Mueller report as something that Mueller said he considered when determining whether or not to say Trump colluded with Russia.

So don’t tell me about people that don’t get humor. Don’t talk to me about people that don’t understand dry humor and sarcasm. We get it, AOC. When things are funny, we get it. But you wouldn’t know funny if it bit you on your pretty little nose. This is the bottom line. These people are the ones that do not have a sense of humor. Look at all the late-night comedy shows that aren’t comedy anymore. Look at all the shows! Late-night comedy is hate applause lines.

“The tweet pinned to the top of Ocasio-Cortez’s Twitter profile … again cites the 12-year deadline along with a video showing how the world could progress if people would only heed such warnings and take them seriously,” and yet she claims that it was just dry humor and people don’t get it. She didn’t really mean it. Well, she did. She meant it to be taken seriously. She meant it to be received exactly as it was. But they be the question to ask is:

“Okay. If her little thing could be blown up this quickly, 12 years — we’ve only got 12 years — what about 20? Do we have 20 years? Do we have 25? Somebody could be 30. Do we have 30 years? At what point do we pass the point of no return?” They want you to think that we already have. The fact that this backfired is probably… One of the best things about this backfiring is that it indicates, as far as public opinion is concerned, that Cortez bombed big time in persuading people of the urgency and seriousness of this, which is always good to know.

BREAK TRANSCRIPT

RUSH: This is Janet in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania. Hi, Janet. It’s great to have you.

CALLER: Well, thank you very much, Rush. I had an epiphany while I was reading your April Limbaugh Letter.

RUSH: Oh, yes.

CALLER: It was about the potatoes and that they aren’t growing to the right size because of the climate. The epiphany was, “Well, how do people plan it so that the potato is gonna be the right size? The climate change people, do they think that they can control the weather by controlling the people so that the potato or whatever it is grows to the right size?” There’s just so many loopholes in what they’re talking about. Are they trying to be God or be like God so that they can control the weather? What do people need to do for them to control the weather? Well, obviously whatever people do, it’s still not gonna control the weather. If we stop running water, it’s not gonna be less humid.

RUSH: See, this is where it gets into it, because the climate people will tell you, “Weather and climate are two totally different things. You can’t compare the two and one does not indicate anything in the other.” Except when it’s hot in August they’ll say, “See! See! It’s getting warmer out there!”

CALLER: Right.

RUSH: When it is 40 degrees in June somewhere, “No, no, no, no. That has nothing to do with climate. That doesn’t mean anything!” They’re just a bunch of… The answer to your question is that the people you’re talking about here would actually. In their minds, they already have replaced God.

CALLER: That’s correct.

RUSH: To believe in man-made climate change — I mean, to really believe in man-made climate change — you really have to have a strange, almost absent opinion of the existence and complexity and power of God. The two cannot possibly go together, and I find the vanity of human beings is incredible. On the one hand, you listen to the animal rights people in their day and we’re no different than a rat, we’re no different than a gnat or whatever.

And then another day, we have so much power that we are destroying the planet, that we could not have created. We are destroying a climate we could not have created — and yet there’s not a single bit of evidence that we can affect anything in the climate or the weather. The story on the potato size was to illustrate how ridiculous this is all getting.

CALLER: That’s right. It’s kind of like with the hot dog consumption thing in New York City. Does it really change? Does it make Mondays a really good day in New York but not in New Jersey —

RUSH: Right. Hot dogs.

CALLER: — where people are still eating hot dogs?

RUSH: But the idea that going without hot dogs one day in New York is gonna have some indication or some assistance or some meaning, some impact on the climate? It’s just insane. But this is how they do think. You have to understand, there’s the leadership and the rank-and-file. The rank-and-file are decent Americans who really believe that we’re destroy the planet, and they don’t want to. And they’ve been made to feel guilty over their role in it.

Everybody wants to matter. This is the left’s hook into people. Everybody wants to matter. Everybody wants to make a difference. Everybody wants to think that their life has meaning. What better way than to think you are saving the planet. So by eating kale and by getting rid of an SUV, you can really feel good about it. You’re not making a smidgen bit of difference, but you feel great about yourself, and that’s one of the hooks. That’s how they’ve been so able to recruit people into this.

CALLER: Hey, thanks for having me, Rush. I’m a big fan. I’ve been listening to you since I got out of the military in ’09.

RUSH: Well, thank you. I appreciate that. It’s great to have you here.

CALLER: Well, yeah. I just wanted to bring up the Ocasio-Cortez saying that it was dry humor. Her followers don’t seem to know. I mean, look at all the kids that went into Feinstein’s office and were complaining that world was gonna end if she didn’t sign onto the Green New Deal.

RUSH: That’s true, and that’s what Feinstein told ’em (paraphrased), “Well, you don’t know what you’re talking about. I’ve been here a lot longer than you have. I’ve been doing this a lot longer than you have and you stupid kids don’t know what you’re talking about.”

CALLER: Yes, sir.

RUSH: Yeah. So your point is that there are a lot of people that believed here, and they went out and started protesting and acting it out. Now she’s saying it was just a joke.

CALLER: Yes, sir. All her followers don’t seem to think it was a joke.

RUSH: No, and I don’t think she does, either. I think this is an effort to turn down the temperature on what she said. You know, the thing about leftists… I sometimes — I actually do, folks. I sit around and ask myself, “What would it be like for me if I were a leftist?” Everything else is the same. I’ve got a radio show. It wouldn’t be near as popular; I understand this. But I’ve got a radio show and I’m a leftist.

Let me put it a different way: What would it be like to receive constant adulation, constant praise, to be constantly built up and amplified by the media? What must that be like? Now, I have enough humility that even when I do get any portion of that, I sometimes wonder, “Am I worth all this?” but I think these people, they hear it so often… I mean, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, she has been built up, she has been promoted, she’s been put on a pedestal.

Nothing about her smells, if you get the drift. I mean, she just Ms. Perfect. These people end up believing this stuff. They’re used to not having anything they say criticized or amplified. Not by their friends. Not by their people on their side. They’re used to total, slavish obedience. They get to say whatever they want to say, and they will never get criticized for it — or very rarely and very little in the media. After enough time a circumstance like that goes on, human nature would dictate that you become immune.

“I get away with say whatever I want, and nobody’s gonna fact check me,” and look what happened. A bunch of conservative fact checked organizations took her seriously. So then she had to go out and say (sputtering), “Y-y-you guys don’t understand parody and satire. I was just joking. It’s dry humor you just don’t understand.” That’s an escape mechanism. But what must it be like to be the recipient of fawning media all the time? What must it be like to be a Michelle (My Belle) Obama or a Bill and Hillary Clinton or even Barack Hussein O, or take your pick.

What must that be like? Those of us on the right will never know it. We will never understand it. But I do believe it causes them to believe all their propaganda. They believe their polls that show them they’re gonna win in landslides. They believe that they can say whatever and it’s not going to be attacked, criticized. They are not gonna be attacked. So it gives them all kinds of flexibility and freedom — and then when they are called on it, they don’t know how to deal with it, because they don’t ever have to.
